Ok heres what i got, a 27 T on A rails, just ignore the bed I gave up on getting it to look right for now. It is currently apart for paint, painted the chassis and suspention parts gloss black with a little shinny here and there to break it up. The body and motor will most likely just be cleaned up and left as is. What I wanted to know is suggestions on if I should paint a checkerboard firewall on it???? Any constructive critism welcome

Sure, as long as the body will be painted with a glossy finish. Squares should be 2-3 inches, play with the layout from the center out to the edge so you end with full squares. That is a flat firewall unlike an A so it should work out well.

I like black & white checkered firewalls better then the overdone numbers on the sides of non race cars.

Do a color combination that matches the paint;....like 2 shades of green, blue, black n gray, etc; my 27 RPU is done in black/maroon with a black paint job on the body. Just a thought!

Only if you paint the body and have a nice detailed engine. I can show you what a T would look like that I have described.

Never have liked checker'd board firewalls. I do like a solid off white (like fords wimbledon white from the 60's) on just about any hot-rod. Gary

Why in the world would you, or anyone else, build a beautiful chassis, detailed and painted, and plop a ragged, crunchy, non-finished, non-painted, pile of sheet metal on top of it?

Unless of course that's what you want to do.

I like the off-white idea I havent thought of that. That is why I was on the fience I like the way it looks but it can get too bussy real fast.

I've never been a big fan of checkered firewalls myself, but plaid would be rad.

vntg41 (andy) has it on his model a and its kind of cool because it was an old hotrod and it was chopped and checkered back in the day. On yours I would say just paint the firewall white-or off white and the rims body and engine that blue. then you can do the interior white/off white and blue accents. it would look clean and simple that way..

Why bother painting the firewall when you are going to leave the body rusty?

Go with 2" chequers, although i don't think it will look right on your car.

    Here's mine

Another case of a good thing over done. How about flat black?

If contrast is what you want on your firewall, how about the same color as the frame, or perhaps the same color as the engine block? A ligher color is good for leak checks, too. Checkerd seems overdone and corny - and far too busy / a distraction next to a detailed engine. Gary

Reading is fundamental. He says it's blown apart for paint.

Checkered firewalls can be cool. Either way is fine.

Checkerboard firewalls! anyone have magnetic checkers to go with 'em? I prefer to think of them as checkered flags!
My car will have a full hood, black paint, red wheels, white walls and a racoon tail on the antenna (how cliche', how gauche'). So in the future I thought my car having a checkered past might be acceptable. (haven't seen one up here yet!)

  27. First checkeredboard firewall I ever saw was on Sam Foose's fat fendered Ford back in the middle to late 70's.
Everyone after that seemed to be a copycat. His was the only one I ever really liked.
They seem to make most engine bays way too busy looking

  28. They ain't so bad, I like mine.

With me it depends on the car and how its done..some times they end up looking too "Busy"
or if the checkers are too small..or too big for the canvas.

Its your thing..do what you wanna do

  30. How 'bout this? Imho, the coolest bucket in the country. Although this one is glass, the owner is a seriuously respected rod builder and metalshaper in NZ. I could show you a current Buick project of his that would floor you but then I'd have to kill you....yep..all of you:D
