Darn, every thing good seems to come from Texas. Just rec an old canteen, 1942, from one of our members, and bought a sbc moon timing cover from another. looking at all the adds and pics, Texas is the state.
Yes, Texans have been doing this hot rod thing for a while... I remember going out to Cali in '97 or '98, I think it was, to the Moon Eyes party. I drove my '95 s-10 because that's all I had that would make the trip. (It was lowered, had steelies, white with flames so it was kinda custom) Anyway I was pretty much shunned during the show until Von HOT ROD got a moon disc and set it down in front of the crowd where the stripers were doing their thing. He told me to show 'em what I got. So I did. After that they were more than friendly. I guess once they saw that a guy from Texas could do what they do attitudes changed. It's definitely a brotherhood when it comes to hot rods if you prove that you are one of them. Like I told 'em, we were doing this hot rod thing way back in the beginning in Texas. We just didn't get the attention they got out there. My Dad was driving a 34 Chevy back in '48 that was cool and bad, so hot rodding was here too. But I still have R-E-S-P-E-C-T for the Cali guys. I have to respect because I'll be getting a new daughter in law from LA this Sept 12th. Born 'n raised in Houston, Tejas. Yes, Texas is cool...I mean HOT!!! Another Texas guy here and ya, I like the state but it gets a bit uncomfortable at times living so close to the coast. I'm 9 miles downwind from Galveston Bay and the humidity mixed with the heat can sure suck at times, especially lately. And the older I get, the less I like the heat.
Well being born and raised in Houston Texas and been here my first 72 years I have decided to spend the second 72 years at the same place. No sense in changing now and Austin aint to far away for burgers.
Been all over the U S, been through a lot of Europe, about half of South America. No place better than Texas. Born in Indiana, came here in '55, will never leave. Texas is one of those places that when you drive over the state stripe on the highway, you always say to yourself, "Yessir". It's different here. It's better here. It's God's own state!
I have a fed and am going to build another eng thats the reason for the ft cover ,and wanted to have a canteen like I had when i was a kid,is the reason for the canteen. I have both thanks to Texas. My oldest dau was born in Wichita Falls while i was going to acft mech school in 59. met eddie hill , and bobby langley while at the dragstrip there. I still remember buchannon st where we lived in a garage.Rode back and forth on a cushman. great 8mos living there. thanks.
really gets good here in Sept with the Dallas invasion event plus the manifolds on main................I miss the invasion last yr but plan to make it in Sept, went to the manifolds on main last yr, for sure will go again.. just real good stuff going on in the DFW area plus we like it hot..
It's the best place in the world if you like uncomfortable weather. Good people and good food, lots of hot rod history too. Best music on the planet. We've got it all here.
Its HOT. But you can ride your motorcycle year round. There are some awesome roads to ride here, and lakes everywhere.
Guess this dude's never been here on a Friday night payday at the ice house--hell, there AIN't no wrong side of the street!!! cooger
I used to work on 6th street downtown. It's like the new students have no idea what a one way street is. Yessir, Texas is the place to be, but like any other place, ya takes the good with the bad
Some of you must not live next door to loud trumpets Otherwise very nice but I'd rather spend July and August in Kansas. If I start a Kansas thread I bet it would be cut Man am I an a mood... TEXAS !
I moved down here from Lawrence, KS. Personally, I'd rather spend my July and August in Minnesota than either of our states. People said I was crazy when I moved to Texas in July. I tried to tell them that Kansas and Missouri are just as hot, but have higher humidity. They wouldn't believe me. I loved Kansas, but I just got to a point that I'd done and seen everything that it had to offer. I'll still put KC BBQ up against anything here in Texas.
Yea ,and its hot as hell, the women wear next to nothing. And winter, forget it. Get's colder'en a well diggers, for about a week.. So stay where youre at , dont come here. (except to visit) Oh Yea ,there are rattlesnakes here too. also, the barbecue and beer here arent to good. (thats what yankees say, like they'ed know) And yes, we all carry guns, and will use them as needed.
