No places to cruise in SoCal !!!!!

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by JeffSled, Jun 27, 2009.

  1. Well ya there are some good shows around here but........ there are NO places to cruise on the weekends.I dont mean a "cruise night" where everybody parks and hangs out,I mean actually burning gas and rapping pipes- cruising. Its been a long week of work and it would be great to pull out the sled and just cruise somewhere where there might be some hotrods or Kustoms.I go for a drive around here and im lucky to see one other old car on the road,VERY LUCKY if it is a kustom or a hotrod. I dont get it..... if there is a show coming up with trophies people come out of the woodwork to show up but when you hit the streets they are nowhere to be found, dont these people drive their cars???? (sorry such a long thread but this shit has been getting to me!!!!!!)

I'm with you. I like to go out and cruise around, but I get tired of seein' all the rice burners and the new "racing" Mustangs takin' off at the lights like they really have something. Be nice to see some old cars out there. Bring back cruising.:D

Man, I feel your pain, but there ain't no pain like living on a rock in the middle of the Pacific! Never mind seeing old cruising on the road, at the last car show, mine was the only Custom there. That's painful.

  4. Yes!! I love it when some of these " Fratboys" in the mustangs try to race me or rev as if my merc is a racecar. Man we should try to start a real cruise night maybe like plan a night all meet up and just hit different spots all driving together.

  5. Man you might not believe this but even over here kustoms are getting more rare and far and few between.

Our carclub had a small "garage tour" type cruise a couple weeks back. Food, cars, and beverages at each stop. Maybe 8 to 10 cars. BBQ at the final stop. Just call some friends up and organize it, if you wait for someone else to pull the trigger, it ain't gonna happen....

I don't believe you!!!!;) I can't complain living here in Hawaii, but it seriously is Street Rod and Muscle Car territory and I can only drive in a big circle.

I always think the same thing when I go to local show or "cruise" nights. There is apparently alot of people around me with old cars, but I rarely ever see any on the road. If you put together some kind of cruise deal, as soon as my car is back on the road, I'm in!

Oh yeah, what about that recent Van Nuys Blvd. Revival Cruise. From what I read on the HAMB it sounded like a dream come true.

Is the dragstrip still operating at the Campbell Industrial Park? I had a friend that used to have the key to the gate.

You got no friends? No car club? No buddies w/ cars?

I belong to a car club- going on 25 years.
About every 2-3 weeks- we do a tour somewhere. Last month- we drove to Santa Paula Airport for a tour of vintage planes. In 2 weeks, we drive to a guys car collection (180 miles RT) of over 100 cars for a club tour. Next month, we are working on a private tour of Edelbrock for our club. Today- it was our club picnic. Over 100 cars & 350 people. Very cool to just hang out w/ your buddies.

When there's nothing planned- a bunch of us get together & drive somewhere. A few weeks ago- 10 of us drove to Julian for apple pie- then across some scenic 2 lane roads to a casino for gambling & dinner.

If it won't come to you- make it happen!

  14. didn't we just bring back cruising on Van Nuys Blvd. after 28 years? I know it's on Wednesday Nights once a month but can we really push it? I mean cruising has been banned for several years. Maybe we can get cruising there on a weekend too every month but can we push it so fast?

Nope. There's no motorsport recreational area at all anymore on this island. There's a push to get a new drag strip opened. The old strip that was around forever basically got swallowed up by development! Kauai, Maui and the Big Island still have their tracks though.

It's not that differant on this side guys. Shows around here can have 250 to 700 cars show up but daily or even on the weekends you're lucky to see 10 total for the week

yep thats is pretty much how we did it, just 3 or 4 or so friends get to gether and drive around.

but i do have to agree that most folks with old cars dont really drive them much, and the most common excuses are some non sensce like, "my points are acting up" or there is a bunch of crud in my fuel filter" or my carbs are a little out of sinc, my breaks need bleeding, 90% off all the excuses i have heard are less then 2 hour and 30 dollar fixes.

I am not sure where you live in the OC but i live on the Peninsula in Newport and drive my 50 merc a lot of days. Shit I didnt even think Bad Bob existed until I saw him broken down on the 55 by Fair last year. A flat black 53 merc just passed me on Hospital road on my way home today. PCH between Huntington and Laguna Bch is always a great cruise on Sat and Sun. Always draws a lot of attention when driving something cool especially with all the high dollar cars in my neighborhood.

I dont know about you guys, but some people gota work to support those that dont. I start between 9:30am and 11 and dont get off till about the same at night. Dosnt leave me any time to wrench on my car during the week let alone drive it. Plus the price of gas is alittle high to just go out and cruise every day. Id love to switch jobs but i cant afford it. It would be nice to get off by 5pm every day.

You'd see alot more people cruising if you got rid of the computers... 50 thousand TV channels... texting...and all this other crap.
We didn't have all that stuff.... we had like 7 channels if they all came in, so living with your car was it. The wheels were always turning.
    And it was great.

Unbelieveable! Man I wish I could afford a house in OC!!! Everytime I head out to OC I see a nice old traditional custom, hot rod, even some nice off topic 60's Muscle Cars. I get jealous everytime I go out there. Even where I live I dont see as much nice stuff as I do in your neck of the woods. One thing I always remember it could be worse, we could live in parts of the U.S. where you could only cruise about 3 or 4 months out of the year if your lucky! Head up this Wednesday for the twilight cruise or in two Wednesdays for the Van Nuys deal, thats about the best of a cruise your going to find right now..

I like to get up early on a Sunday and cruise along the coast in Malibu. I'll stop for coffee somewhere. Paradise Cove is open for breakfast at 7 am, maybe head up Kanan over to the Rock Store and over Mulholland. Another Sunday morning, I'll drive to a restaurant called "Swingers" on Beverly, just w/of La Brea. Real 60's diner vibe, some of the waitresses look like pin-ups and the food is great. Last time I was there, I looked over and told my wife that a guy looked like Jeff Goldbloom. She looked over and said, "That is Jeff Goldbloom". I use to tell people I was going, but no one wanted to drive their cars. There's also a group of rodders in La Cresenta that once a month plan a cruise somewhere. They once drove down to the So Bay to see Trumps Golf Course, then Rubys for lunch.

They do "Fontana Days" once a month and cruise Sierra all night long. You see everything from Bombs to Hot Rods, plus there is Stay Gold Barber Shop that will clean your bushy mop up real nice. So. Cal. is still bangin! you just have to ask.

Try living in a small town (pop. 3500) that is 45 minutes from the nearest urban area. One lap of the town takes 4 minutes. Cruising? What's that! LOL

Cruisin Escondido is a blast. The problem is that if you live up in the Ontario area you have to close up shop early on Fri to do it.
I wish for the days of my youth, cruisin Whittier Blve Fri and Sat night. From the Mercury dealer downtown out to Whitwood Center and back. Bobs was right in the middle so several stops were made there.
And those of you who did this know about the girls who would sit on the wall in front of the high school waiting for rides in the "bitchen" cars. They usually talked you out of a coke or something at Bobs but it was worth it.
There are no places like that left anymore. The cops have cracked down and the ricers have fucked it up for all of us. Such a shame.
I cruised Whittier Blvd from 64 till 68 when Uncle Sam called and offered me a full time job. Shitty pay, see the world. "meet" new people LOLOLOL A story for another time.
Did anyone else cruise the "boulevard" during that time??
