Customs Merc chop progress with compiled project pics

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by Verbal Kint, Jun 1, 2009.

  1. A local guy Ryan has owned and worked over a couple mercs in the past, this is his latest.
I posted the start of this project back in fall of '08, he took some time off to work on paying projects and recently got back to it. I put together this post took some of the previous posted pics and added a bunch of new ones from this past weekend.

  5. Nice. I really dig the front end on that car. I'm generally not a big fan of keeping the 51 rear window on a chop, but it looks great here!

  7. I don't think Ryan (the builder) is a "fan" of keeping the 51 rear window after all the work it is requiring but he wanted the challenge and wanted this one of his mercs to be a stand out.

Incidentally, this merc is a plain janer monterey that originally came with a leather or fabric roof. It has the original pin holes for attachment above the windshield.

  13. Hey did I heard you are trading the coupe in on something more sensible..... like a Minivan?

You'll look good in a Dodge Grand Caravan!

Just busting your chops, congrats, see you at the shop.

I really like the Hirohata-style front-end treatment! He's doing a killer job on that car!

Looking at the way the back window/C pillar area flows, this car is going to be killer. A recent car mag featured Bill Hines doing the same thing...... only his, to put it politely, was a mess.

That is some smart slicing on the b and c pillar areas! Is that just one relief cut above quarter window? Well done, cant wait to see more!

  24. I believe it has just eh single relief above the rear quarter windows. It does have an entire new roof section off one of the parts mercs.

The builder can fill in the answers since I have a hard time keeping track of the work and all the pieces that went into the chop.

  25. This is a true 51 kustom in the making. Look at the detail from the top of the decklid to the bottom of the rear window, that factory detail remains. This guy didnt want a fastback chop and it looks STUNNING!!!!!!! The rear window is placed right where it should be .This car to me is looking like it is right on its way.
