Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by PeteMattersen, May 13, 2009.

  1. I have a 55 buick in the shop i just got done paining. Now its time to put trim on but the prior owner was a little hard on things when they dismantled this old girl. Anyone know where to find them?I need side trim and upper door molding clips. Its a special, 4 door sedan.

    make what you need
cut a scrap of metal so it slides in your trim,
drill a hole in the center, weld in a small bolt

To be high class, use stainless with a stainless bolt

  3. Try Au-ve-co,

Or the Buick clubs. I know a Buick Club member that has drawers full of new clips. PM me for his name..I don't want to put it out here without his permission.

Ask a body man. You can buy a universal clip that you can trim to size with snips with the boly welded in quite reasonable.

kanter has clip kits for most cars, or you could make them. time vs. money.

Try paint shops. They usually carry a very large assortment of trim clips.

  12. I was considering this, but if i could just find them that would be ideal, they are pretty much all either missing or mangled.

    Wtf?

Thanks for the info fellas, sounds like they are easier to find then i assumed.

Thanks guys, for the sources! I've been getting ready to put '54 Buick trim on my '49 and didn't really want to go with plastic, either.

They worked out really good on mine!!!
Real easy to trim to fit, with just tin snips, and they have a protrusion, on the back, so that you can trim back, for deep or shallow moldings. That way you can get a real tight fit.
I am going to order some more, in case I finally find a set of rocker moldings for my 51 chevy!!

Just wondering why some of you guys are "anti-plastic"???
I looked at several types of fasteners, and I reasoned (whether right or wrong) that these would be a lot easier to install, and remove, if you had too, and also wouldn't have the problem of rusting clips, bleeding down on the paint at a later time.

I guess if a person was trying to build a car, to original specs, and with all original stuff, but I not at all, interested in "Restoration Scene". I am just trying to build a poor boys, driver.

To each his or her own, of course!!!
But was just wondering what your thinking on going "anti-plastic.
