Anybody have any pictures of digital guages in a 28 chevy with the original oval bezels? Where'd you get them? Thanks Jim
Dont have anything digital for ya. But check out valkokir thread titled (How To Reface/Replace Your Guages) It has to do with 28 chevy guages I think you will like it...ghost
Jim, The wheels you sold me started rattling and shrieking in the garage when I opened this thread. You've almost completed a great build and it is YOUR car to do with as you please, but I think you might be less than please with the results if you went with digital. It's pretty easy to mock up if you want to see what it'll look like- just find a digital add and cut/paste and slide that in the holes. Valkokir did a nice thread on using modern guts with "original" faces a few months back.
Take a look at this website and contact these people to have something unique and beautiful done for your Chevy. http://www.classicinstruments.com/index.aspx?documentID=retrofits They can do something that will be much more fitting for your vintage car and the dash will look fabulous whether the car is running or parked. Check it out.
OK OK OK OK OK!!!!!!!!!!!!! I was just asking. I actually talked to Dakota Digital and the price has scared me. I REALLY don't think they would be that bad, especially with the color scheme (you prob won't like that either, Tan roof & interior, peach body with maybe a few teal highlights---oh crap I can hear it now!!) How about some NON DIGITAL options, I really like the original oval bezel holes. Open to suggestions! Thanks Jim
If you're doing that to the car in your avatar, it's a fucking crime. I know the 80s were a long time ago, but it's not long enough to be considered "traditional".
What's the difference. If I had a '30 you guys would have me choppin' it all up & throwing half of it away. I have already done a couple of restorations and I want a car that is mechanically NEW. I am done with the drivetrain, a sbc, 200r4 and buick rear. The outside body hasn't been altered at all. All is going as planned! Am I sure the color scheme will make me jump 4 joy?, I don't know. Maybe you will be suprised. Any constructive guage help? Jim
Peach and teal, digital gauges, sbc and an auto. Is it going to have IFS, TPI and 15" billet wheels too? Is the back window going to be in the shape of a bowtie? Will you paint "The Heartbeat of America" somewhere on it? It's your car, but please don't do anything to it that can't be undone by someone with good taste.
OK, you ignored advice leading you to one of the best Tech pieces EVER on the HAMB. Search out this thread.......hell how many times can Chevy guys even FIND tech!?
Uhh, Jim's a good guy and very fair! If you would employ some reason (rather than ranting), you all might get a little further. Jim- Like I said, you've got a nice car with a solid foundation and and good work done already. Maybe play around with color ideas on photoshop, etc to see if what you have in your mind's eye will really pan out. Going the traditional route may seem "bellybutton" on here, but heck, it's a traditional sight. Best of luck and thanks again, Bill
Yeah I followed Jims build on the internet and it is top notch. Which influenced my decision to buy and build my 28 chevy. And Mac the yankee is right about photoshopping your car for color combos. It most likely throw you into another direction. Especially on a box style car such as ours. The easter egg colors, I feel just don't work (Just too bright)...ghost
MAck & Ghost, Thanks for not making a mountain out of MY molehill. The car isn't painted yet and I will be exploring what to do on photoshop. I would like to use lighter colors. I have seen cars with that color combination and they really look sharp BUT they were not the box shape that the 28 is. All the "hate" mail had me a little down but I bounce back fast. Especially since I should be taking the buggy for a SHORT ride next weekend. Just working out a couple of details. Will try to post pictures! Thanks to everyone Jim
Congrats on getting far enough to take it for a spin! You should treat yourself to some ice cream! Can't wait to see the pics, Bill
