Fred Offenhauser got HOT ROD and put it on a VW buggy just to piss off Dick Day. Later on, he passed it on to Bob Petersen and the last time I saw it, it was on Pete's Rolls Royce. My wife had a Porsche and her plate was AKTUNG. The PCA president wanted that plate. So, I had it transferred to a MC plate and put it on a 50cc Honda Hopper scooter.

My personalized plate is the same 6 numbers as on a 1927 Colorado plate painted to match the car.

Almost forgot, in Minnesota now if you have 2 or more DWI/DUI's you get a special plate kinda like this. The first letter is "W" so every body calls 'em whiskey plates. Basically having these makes you a rolling target for cops, my understanding is they can pull you over whenever they want, for no reason at all, just to make sure you're not boozin'. Not a bad idea and it adds some shame to being a drunk driver.

Had the plate since the 70's ... :D
But ... It has not always been on a 1932 Ford ... I had it on my pickup a time or two when the roadster was down ...

  8. a bit OT, but there's a late-model pale green VW here with "KRAUT" as the plates...pretty funny

  9. i have heard that too , but i have asked a couple cops and they say no...they still need a reason to pull them over . you would have to think that if a cop saw a car with W plates at bar closing time they would find a reason

  13. I have (what I this is) one of the first Personalized plates OK ever issued. A single character. "X". It was used by my old neighbors husband. He ran the local Xerox plant. He used to have "XEROX" but after a few "encounters" with the local cops and HP's, his boss made him get rid of it. I'll post pics later.

Those of you in St.Louis may remember my 75 Duster with the plate AMAZER.

Got it from the Tim Curry music video "Paradise Garage" they would play just before the Rocky Horror Picture Show. A brief glimpse of the plate as he pulls onto the rack.

Worked for me, hangs in my shop now.

I spotted a car with a plate that made me want to catch up and see what she looked like. It was a Nv. plate BITCHIN. I caught up with her and immediately dropped back to my former position. Her mirror was lying to her or she had no mirror.

My '57 Chevy 150 two door, 283 / 270, dual quad had "DUNTOV".
People would go nuts trying to sound it out.

My wife and I were stopped at a light behind a girl in a Honda or something like that once, when we noticed her plate read ILUVANL. No one to this day believes me until my wife vouches for the story.

Another friend had "2FAST4U" on his Willys and one night several of us just happened to have the news on when we saw his plate flashed up on the TV screen with the news anchor laughing and saying "apparently not fast enough" - he had just been caught after a high speed chase with the cops.

If any of you do business with Randy's Ring & Pinion Service, be sure to remind Randy of that night...ha, ha

  26. My C.O.E. has HTRDTOW and the shop truck has HTRDFAB
Greg Peterson, who many of you know here, has IFAB4U
In the 70's i worked with a guy who had FASRNU
My Trailer has RACETOW and the Anglia has RACEFVR
    My 41 Coupe had 1FAT41
    And the 55 done 2 Lane/Graffiti style had RAT1955 (because it had a 454)
There was a Willy's on Balboa Island in the 70's/80's that had TIH5 ON, read it in the mirror

The legendary pin striper Shaky Jake ordered about 100+ plates when California first brought out the Personalized plates in the 70's and then sold them - made a fortune!

her husband probably got that for her as revenge for something and she never noticed... or just did'nt get it. LOL :D

when i had my goatee (from 21 till about a year ago) people often told me i looked like the Devil. so i went with it...

my old chopped 50 Chevy coupe had "DVLSRD"

my lowered 95 S10 SS (first vehicle i bought brand new) had "AMIEVL". Metallica and Diamond Head fans will appreciate that one.

my lifted 84 Chevy 4x4 has "ELDABLO" (ElDiablo=The Devil)

and i have this last one saved for a radical little roadster i've had on the back burner for a long time now...
