These are two from Southwest Missouri. The flat black '51 was built by a guy who'd never done a sled before and will never do one again. He painted it a beautiful dark blue metallic, drove it a year or two, and sold it. I think it was the best looking non-chopped Merc I've ever seen. I wouldn't have thought the molded bumpers would look good, but it did!
The shiny one, High School Dropout, is owned by a HAMBer and was at the HAMB drags again this year. It is also the reason my '53 Chevy has a '53 vette grille. Love the DeSoto bumper, too.

What about Joe Nitti's Merc--the car he got in trade for his famous roadster? That was unchopped. Someone must have a picture of that.

That's a beauty too Bob! I knew you had a 51 coupe but never saw it.

We can't forget 51MercCT either, his car is the cats meow as well!

The car was on this great cover as well.. showing only the nose.
The chopped four door is Jerry Reichman's also by Barris.

I think it's funny how un-chopped Mercs have become a rarity now a days...IMO, they can look just fine like that...in fact, now THEY stand out...

  21. I had somebody ask me once what was wrong with my car and why the windows were big. I just kinda stood there for a minute before it dawned on my what they were talking about.
