Hot Rods Attn: KC area HAMBers the Ravin needs help

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by porknbeaner, Aug 20, 2008.

  1. Just got off the horn with the Ravin, he broke the roadster doing test'n' tune @ KCIR.

So if your KC Area we need a couple Axle Keys for a Ford Banjo rear end.

It was pretty niosey so he was hard to hear but I guess he rolled into the stageing lanes, loaded it and SNNAaaP it turned loose.

He's still there, waiting on the little lady and a tow, but never the less if we can get some keys he can still make the run to MOKAN.

He's not looking for a handout, but can ya help a brutha out?

    Call me

    810 9172.

    Thanks

  2. OK its probably against some kind of a rule, but you all know how I feel about rules, right?

So lets give this a bounce, cause i know that the KC crowd only reads the first page.

    Anybody out there?

  4. I'm here but I run all late model stuff. Too bad he didn't brake an axle bell I got a pair of those under the bench. I guess you'd have to slam one pretty hard into something to ruin one of those.

Try your nearest ACE hardware or even Home Depot. It is just a pirce of1/4 inch key stock.

What he said... If the axle is cool, we should be able to get him back together...

  7. If I wasn't four hours away I'd be on it like stink on a skunk. I've got a fair selection of keystock.

  8. Well the good news is he's home and got it apart.

The bad news is it sheared an axle, so now the hunt is on for an axle. He should be on the horn to Kevin Lee as we speak.

I think he's got a '57 Ford rear but switching the axle is his best bet for '27.

  9. Didn't Beemer have some rear-end stuff from that last find???>>>>.

    I have a LOW geared axle out of my F2... if'n he's interested. :)

Robin, left you a message. Talked to Ben, and he says you may well be able to use it. My goal is to replace it with a bolt-in Dana 60 from a '68 F250 I found at Highway 7 Auto Salvage for $175 that I'm raising the fundage for.

The brakes on it are new - hone the wheel cylinders and bleed 'em and you're off... it even has a decent few coats of black chassis paint on it!

I just talked to him and yes, he broke an axle. So unfortunately, the keystock can't help him. :(

Anybody have an axle close to Kansas City? His rear is 55" backing plate to backing plate, and 61" from hub to hub.

His goal is to get it back together by Friday night. If he can get an axle, he won't have to redo any bracketry...

    Help!

This is from a '41 - '48 (maybe later), possibly an F1 (with the '41 - '48 drums). He said it looks like the earlier rear with an F1 open drive conversion done on it, and it could be. Apparently it came out from under a rod in California and was replaced with a 9".

  15. Got a note off to Bruce for a good ID on the rear.
Well a good close ID on the rear I guess.

I was planning on leaveing on my Pilgramage early tomorrow morning, but it looks like it may be mid day before I get gone now. Gotta get some good male bonding/garage time it at the Ravin's Digs. Damn the luck.:D

I have a 36 banjo rear sitting here, will those axles work? If so I'll pull them and get them to Joplin today. I'm leaving sometime this morning, so I need to know pretty quick. Rusty. (573)338-5356

Those axles won't work Rusty. Too short.
I have a 42-48 already pulled. Need to know what you have Ravin.

Hey Robin, Just got off the phone with Rusty.
So I will be bringing you an axle friday to the drags.
Hell maybe we can break another old Ford if the 9" blows up.
    Later buddy,
    Mike

Very little rear stuff actually. There is one axle though, not sure what its for. I'll be out at the shop late this afternoon and I can measure it. It'll probably be late this evening before I'm even back in Topeka though.

Yeah, My F2 axle was a little too big. I measured backing plate to backing plate and came up with like 61" or so. Just a little too big...

Would've been a damned fine rear for drag though, with those stump puller gears in there!

    One more bump!

Post is rather confused...izzit a '42-46 open pickup banjo or a '57 Ford??
Pickup rear uses same axle as '42-48 Ford, '42--47 pickup.
That makes life easier, as that axle comes in only one tooth count.
Axle keys (quality unknown!) are actually in Home Depot in a drwer marked "Axle keys" in the hardware aisle! The 1/4" ones needed are a bit long and lack the tapered end, but HD also has hacksaws and files...

Not sure what the rear is out of, actually.

It IS a banjo, with the measurements in my post above.

    It IS an open driveline.

The axle IS broken, so a key won't help.

Yes, he can put a 9" in if he needed to, but he's have to make ALL NEW brackets, which is daunting, especially with the possibility of finding a new axle high.

Hope this cleared some stuff up. :D

Ditto. A banjo, no less, too.

But if my F2 was too wide, an F1 might be too...

I don't know as if he's been on here all that much. Ben, maybe, but I don't know about Robin.

You might try calling one of 'em and seeing. If Robin decided to go with the 9" he already had, he's probably in the midst of re-doing all his bracketry in the garage.
