Anyone who would chop a '40 Coupe shouldn't be allowed to own a '40 Coupe.

That's your car and you obviously can do with it as you wish, however I wouldn't change a single thing about that coupe. It flat rocks exactly the way it is, right down to that cool-ass green paint. You are one lucky, lucky man.

Don't do it man. It can only look worse, not better!!! By the way... a 40 without flames is like sex without a tongue.

i would not chop it either. it is too nice the way it is.

  13. I would put the hood back on, put the nose in the weeds and bring the back down abit too. But if you want to be a HACK go ahead. A '40 does not need to be chopped to be bitchin'. They'rejust born bitchin'.

In the forty or so years I have had mine, I've seen dozens of chopped '40 coupes. Only about three or four were an improvement on the original. Most (probably nine of ten) took one of Henry's best and screwed it up. I am no restorer; I like chopped coupes. But, that said, a '40 Ford is exceptionally hard to do well.

I'll get shit for this - but guess what - I don't care. No one really ever owns a car; they're just in your custody for a while. If you mutilated a child who was in your custody, you'd get arrested. Sell it to someone who appreciates it.

Lets not chop a 40 coupe! (Unless you just meant the model) :D

  18. Fuck it. Go ahead and chop it. A nice mild chop would look great on the car. Then get the ass end down, nose up in the air, some skirts, and you'd have a beautiful custom.

I've never cared for 40 coupes with a nose down rake.

I had ton's of people tell me not to chop my Hudson. Tons. I did a nice mild chop and I haven't had a single person tell me afterward that they didn't like it. FWIW.

Kirk posted this pic from GoodGuys Puyullap this year. 40 Fords look bitchin' as Henry designed them, but the proportions on this chopped '40 look pretty damn good...

it's true...I did say that...and ended up eating my words.

    BUT

40's are damn near perfect as-is! do what you want, but if it were mine I'd drive th shit out of it as-is!!

  22. If you want a chopped '40...sell the one you have an buy a chopped one. The '40 coupe is THE best pre-war design Ford or any other company ever made.
I'm no purest, but if every old car get's wacked, then what happens to our history?

A really good reason to NOT chop a '40.

  27. I agree. Not a very good chop in my opinion.

Zibo - the photos of the chopped 40 from the Montgomery book prove that it can be done nicely...do it. I'll come help.

Hey Travis! How's it going? Haven't been out much. But from Dan's words, you moved or something? And why on God's Green Earth are you chopping a perfectly nice 40 Ford coupe? I guess it's all down hill from here on out.

37-40 ford coupes do not look good chopped. Some things are just better left alone.
Please re-consider.... I am not an anti chopping fanatic either but these cars look good as is. Rarely can you improve the looks although I have seen very very few customs that look good.
