I just wanted to say thank you for proving to me that fixing the plymouth and using the rest of the money towards a 56 chevy would not put me over the threshhold into "Too many cars".

    Bastards.

    uno.

49 chevy deluxe 2dr sedan. and with my level of expertise, its one too many sometimes.

  3. 99 Suburban (rainy daily)
    06 Passat (wife's)
46 Chevy Púp (only HAMB-friendly, not presently running)
    99 Honda VFR (every-other daily)
    81 GoldWing custom (every-other daily)
73 Honda CB350f (project repli-racer, not presently running)
87 Honda VFR (project hardtail-bobber, not presently running)

I would like another (62 Chevy wagon, another 46 truck for a bobber, or a 49-50 shoebox) but room, money, and wife (in reverse order) prevents additions. Oh well....

I only have a 12 x 20 single garage right now, but we have a huge yard. So...I'm currently considering a '41 Pontiac Silver Streak 4-door that's for sale locally. It's been for sale for awhile and I'd hate to see it get junked. It's an original good-running and maintained car.

Nine years ago, my ex-wife (Note I said Ex-wife) came in after work and said I just counted 273 cars in the back yard. I agreed that this was correct. She stated "something has to go, its them or me. I helped her pack!
Not sure how many is too many, but what you have is never enough!!!!!;)

I had 2 daily drivers (me and wife), my '49 Ford coupe, a '50 Ford convertible and I was making a deal on another car when I came to my senses.

I work a lot of hours, have limited space, a 2.5 year old son at home and a mortgage. I kept the car that was further along and sold the '50 earlier this year. To me there's no point of keeping stuff around if you realistically can't get to it for years. I know a few guys with 4-5 project cars with no cash to finish any of them.

Personally, I think for us city folk in northern climates, one finished and one project car is plenty if you have a job and a family. If I lived in the country, was semi-retired with cash to spare, I'd probably have 3-4 toys.

Given the price of chrome, paint, parts, gas, insurance, etc., it's not hard to get $20-30K in a finished car with you doing a lot of the work. Personally, I couldn't justify having $80K++ tied up in 3-4 cars while telling the wife/family there's no money to go on a nice vacation, get a pool or short-change our retirement fund. Yes it's a lifestyle and hobby, but to me it's hard enough to keep it a "hobby" as is. I find too many guys let it get out of hand and destroy their family. I don't think it's an accident that many of my car buddies are divorced or single.

  18. I have a 57 Chevy truck (see avatar), a 57 Chevy two door hardtop Lego set, a 56 Pontiac sedan delivery, 51 Monarch sedan, a couple of T touring bodies, a 53 VW van and a basket case 57 Chevy 150 Handyman. I realized a while ago that I can't fix everything and sold off the ones I would never get to - a 56 DelRay, 56 Bel Air sedan, a 57 210 4 door hdtp, 38 Dodge, and 49 Hudson.

Still looking for the elusive 59 El Camino or 57 panel or Suburban.

  19. 7, but I've had as many as 12 running older cars at once. I don't think your question should be how many is too many, but how many is still not enough (insert smily here)

    Need?

    -55 Bel Air---wife's car--owned a loooooong time
-57 Bel Air Fuely---owned off and on for 30 years
    -95 Impala SS--wife's daily
-2007 GMC pickup---my daily (when not in 40 or 55)

  27. 9 not counting my daily. Yes it really is too many. They ALL cost money. My dad used to tell me "its gonna be a motherfucker trying to build half a dozen cars on a hundred dollar budget!" I have a good friend whos favorite saying is "you can only be a slave to ONE master." Hes built a couple of really nice cars so I gotta give him props for sticking with it.

I currently have 4 cars and a motorcycle. No matter how hard I try, they do not appear to fit in a 2 car garage. :(
