    OK Guys,
    Two things....

    1. This photo is my favorite thus far.

    2. What is with the windshield? Three piece? Reflection?
Pizza Box? Instructions on how to drive taped to the inside of the windshield? What do you think?

There was a really nice full color, 2 page spread shot of this car in the Rodder's Journal a while back. BAD BAD BAD and metalflake too!

Ok here's my take. The little windshield is like litmus, while you can still see it, you know the blower's still in place!

  4. There is no full windshield in the car, and if I remember it right, no rear window glass. That is just a piece of clear plexi for a driver wind screen. My question is, with the nose that high, the scoop in front of him, and sitting against the back of the cockpit, how the hell did the driver see anything in front of him?????

Dean, From the looks of that thing, he probably staged with the help of a crew member, looked out the side window to see the Christmas tree and then shut his eyes and stomped on the gas. :D

Well Art Arfons had a neat deal for drag fans with lots of nerve. How about getting a 250MPH ride in his "Super Cyclops"? He drives from one side-pod while you ride in the other and do your best to not make a mess.

    Thats the ultimate:

Looking for more pics of this twin. Frakes and Funk was also full bodied. I found it and its being restored as we speak. Mike

The Ultimate death wish. I believe the very last pass on this monster killed a journalist who had gone along for the ride.

I stole this photo from HAMBer "Goober" from another thread...
Just imagine driving an altered wheelbase monster without a helmet :):) !

  19. Anyone else notice that all three of these coupes have remarkably cherry 34 grills/shells? Probably a dime a dozen then. Now a re pop goes for 1000's!! It was a different time..........................

  20. I think the color shot shows very dark green plexi in the side windows. Would have been bad enough in the day time, but night runs, not me brother!!

  21. I think that pretty much covers it! I've always thought fuel altered drivers used a wheelbarrow to haul their nads around!

  22. yes that did happen at the extinct Dallas International Motor Speedway which I currently live down the street from where it was. Actually it killed 3 people, Channel 8 reporter Gene Thomas who was riding shotgun in the Super Cyclops Jet Car and IHRA staff members Robert Kelsey and Sean Pense. This was Art Arfons last ride...

Looks like Tony Nancy's max wedge Plymouth rail in that pic next to the fealess guy in the mid engined T.

  25. Anymore pics of anything from San Fernando?

  26. One of the networks ran a story about this with graphic videos that had the NHRA really upset, thus the restrictions on jet and rocket cars still in effect today. It was common in those days to take media folks for a ride. I remember the day at Pocono Drag Lodge that track announcer Mondo went for a ride in the Hemi Under Glass. He was stoked.

I wandered when someone was going to find a pic of Osborne in that twin eng car.
Mine were all lost many years ago.
    Thanks Mazooma1.

  30. Look at the crafty thinking on the Osborne car!! Lifting the second bonneville scoop as to not have the front scoop block the air. Tell me these cats were not thinking>>>>.
