well, two important things happened... 1. it was out biggest Michigan show yet 2. it didnt rain... not even a drop I wont exact car numbers in until monday, but the normal show grounds filled up and we had many cars in an overflow area off to the side. GREAT turn out. Particularly when you consider just 12 hours prior we were looking at tornado warnings and torrential rain. It was hot and muggy, as is normal for Billetproof (it was 8o degrees 2 days ago, 92 today ). But it didnt rain in the afternoon. PERFECT. a BIG thanks to the Poor Boys Detroit for the bitchin trophies and the help al day long. The Pecker Heads and the Nightmares car clubs pitched in as well. Boomer and his crew from the bike shop worked hard as well (thanks for the beer Terry!!). thanks to everyone that showed up. Ya'll made a GREAT SHOW. The cars, trucks and bikes were amazing. Picking the trophies was pretty damn hard. All were well deserved. I'll have some pics up on Monday. Very tired tonight.
There is no question it was the biggest show yet. The Nightmares and friends had a big group there and everybody had a great time. I'd like to add my thanks to everyone that worked so hard. As much as I like the location, it looks like we may be running out of room there.
I did upload my photos already but I was going to wait till tomorrow to write the story. Perhaps I'll start and be able to post tonight still......stay tuned.
We had a great time. Trip home was eventful as well. Limped home like a 3 legged dog after the trailer (car wasn't done) decided to lock up a brake at US23 and M14 40 miles from home! Court got lots of encouragement on his truck and I got to spend a day with my boys goofing off!
My buddys Gold 60 Catiliana was number 401 and he was a late arrival. What a great show. Saw lots of great cars, good people. Car ran OK it did appaer to suffer from vapor lock on 2 occasions- after stopping right after a long 15-20 mile run. Pulled over and it fired right back up. I am going to replace the fuel filter on Monday. It looks like the rod and Kustom scene is thriving in Motown. Got event flyers from the Rumblers and Road Devils. I was also able to verify some of the History of my car, due to at least 3 Older guys from the Southwest Detroit, Downriver area. I am still stoked, But very sunburned. Can we do it again soon?? That Green Ford that won best Custom was unreal - Real Jimmy Skirts. All those guys were great to talk to. Thanks to all that help put it on. Had a blast!
Sounds alittle steep. I'd guess 200-250 at the most...25 cars in a row, about eight rows and about 50 cars in the spill over area that you were parked.....unless they were counting the vendors daily drivers as well.
Had a really good time, this was my fourth Billetproof and my second with the sedan. However this was the first time I drove the car to the show. Rolled down with a bunch of guys and all the machines ran perfectly. The show was a lot bigger than last year, here's a little sample of the hundred or so pics I took.
Maybe I need to check his # again. I was like 250 something. Must not have been in any kind od sequence. Still lots of cars.
This was the 1st Billetproof Ive attended, I will never miss another! The turnout was great, awesome people and sweet rides! My 51 Stude truck will be in attendance next year gathered a ton of ideas. I ran into people that I had no idea were into "My type of hotrods" {Loveoftiki} enjoy the pics!! Jerry Sarkozi
Let me preface this by saying that I love this show. BP was the first event I actually participated in with a car I built. So this critique is out of concern and not spite. The numbers were a lot bigger than last year but there were lots of cars that didn't fit the bill if you read Billetproof's guidelines. There was a hacked up model A sedan turned pickup right behind us with IFS and no fenders. There was another similar creation with a Mustang II setup sans fenders as well. I also saw some pretty polished Weld and Center Line wheels on a few creations. In the pics, take a look at the ice shanty on wheels behind the two Model T's. I just hate to see this show morph into a regular car show with a few traditional rods. Towards the end of the show last year these two guys showed up and parked a bright red fiberglass deuce roadster with billet wheels. They got out and looked around like "I don't think we're in Kansas anymore." A couple of guys gave them some shit asking them how hey got that car into the show? This year it just seemed like anything goes.
Great show, great folks...lot's of fun. Here's a few pix for those of you who couldn't make it today.
That coupe was bithin and the guy that brought it down was realy cool. I parked next to him for awhile, offered up some dogs and all. I think his name was Dan from Lapeer. Realy cool car, and a cool guy to boot
its always funny how in a car show of hundreds of cars someone can concentrate on the handful that sneak that break some sort of rule and then decry the show as going to the dogs. Were there a few cars that had things on them that were against the rules? Yes. Did we turn away cars that didnt belong? Yes. What is "anything goes"? Far from it. I end up saying this every year... Some cars sneak in every year for some reason or another. Some people just blow past my gate goons and get in. I'm not going to ask anyone at the gate to lay down in front of a car to stop them from entering. The gate people usually get ahold of me and I take care of it and get the car to leave. If the owner isnt there at the car that can be kinda hard. I dont own a tow truck and dont know that I would tow a car even if I did. Other times its just chaos at the gate some something doesnt get noticed. you mention someone rolling up at the end of the show, well the gate goons sometimes take a break towards the end of the show. Does that mean you can roll up in your slammed 80's mini truck and "enter" the show? no. But at 4pm there might not be someone at the gate while the awards are being given out.
Alan, This is a simple observation from someone who enjoys your shows, and nothing more. I'm certainly not saying the show is going to the dogs. I also stated that I had a great time. Last year I almost got turned away because my car wasn't running, stopping, or insured and I had to trailer it. The only thing that saved me from being parked outside was the email from you that I printed off saying it was okay for me to bring the car. After the amount of grief I got for trying to show a chopped and chanelled, straight axle model A I was surprised to see the amount of IFS, modern wheels, and street rod type vehicles this year. Like I said, just a critique not a complaint or predicting the end of the show. I just don't want to see it lose the cool vibe it has. That's all, Scott.
