The Pertronix part number in the catalog for a 1954 Bel Air w/ a 235 is 1168 but it doesn't specify 12v or 6v. The car has already been converted to 12v. Can I run the recommended part number even though its been converted?
1168 , Yup if it has 12p after , then no Most of them come negative ground unless you ask for 6volt positve or 12volt positive. Take out your points and condenser and replace it with the ignitor and the magnet. black wire from Ignitor to negative ( - ) side of the coil red wire to the positive (+) side of coil. Martin
According to my info a plain 1168 (with no additonal letters or numbers following the "8") is for a 12 volt negative ground. The 6 volt model of this would be the 1168N6. I got my Pertronix stuff from http://www.vintageperformance.com/retrorockets They were very helpful in getting me the correct stuff and for help getting me up and running. They usually respone to their email very quickly, in case you need to ask a question. On the other hand, Martin has given you excellent advice.
