WOW what a great weekend!!! Jamie and the Kustom Kings out do themselves every year at this show. What has started as a little (benefit) show has growned into a monster. Lots of cool cars, old friends, new friends, and the best part, a family blessed by something that we all love so much, "CARS".

Friday around lunch I get a call from Robert "A31MOFO" here on the Hamb, You all may remember the chopped Coupe me and my dad had been working on that got about 2 weeks from finished and funds ran out. Anyhow, enough about that, the phone call consisted of trying to help get some Rochester 2g's worked out on the COupe. With really wanting that car to be at the show and since I was passing rite by his house I said what the heck I can help. I am going somwhere with this so stay tuned. I get there and the rear carb is just dumping fuel. After alittle adjusting of the float, and blowing out some junk in the seat we got her running 90% better.

So into 5:00pm I am fixing to head to the Meet and Great at Guymons Place. And Robert says he is going, call his wifey and she decides she wants to go, SO issume we are all just gonna drive the dailys up or just ride together. She arrives and we start loading up. HE looks at me and chunks me the key. I said what? HE says "Drive it, you built it", too cool. I looked like a kid with a new toy. But it just was not any toy, It was the baddest one in ther store you could get. I was so excited to drive it. I usually dont like driving other poeples car but I felt it was long awaited and not getting to do the first shake down run I felt that this would be my shakedown without the shakes.

So we head out around 5:30 with not time to spare if we wanted to make the caravan at the Hotel. As I eased onto 75 it was then and only then that I realized I was in Hot Rod, and this is why I do what I do, Build hot rods. I was in a zone, passing BMW's, Tahoes, Mustangs, etc. I felt like nothing could stop me now. the weather weas great, the car was running great. I was officially on cloud 9.

We rolled into the motel parking lot wit honly a few minutes to spare. Lots of hambers were already there, Including, all the Torques, Daddyo54, x-gasser, etc. We rolled out and onto the cool drive to David Guymons place. It was a short stint across Texoma Lake. It was really nice and peaceful. Anyhow, we rolled into Davids to a handfull of previously done customs by Guymon, as well as a cool shop with tons of memorbilia. David is great and has things going his way. Thanks so much for the hospitiality and the great burgers. At aroung 9:00pm it was time for me to go since i had to make the 100 mile treck back home. If you are married, you no why.

Anyhow woke up fresh the next morning and headed back to Robert's place. I was planning on driving the 63 Chevy pickem up Robert owns just to get another car there. But to my surpise again, Robert throws me the keys and says drive it I got to leave early and want the coupe to stay. Anyhow we pull up around 9:45 am and the place is already hopping. Tons of cool cars and the place is hooping. Nothing better than pulling up in a open header, chopped Coupe. Now I know how "Bass" feels. The car really drew alot of attention by the crowd. It really is a cool car. Anyhow, the food was awesome as always, I even got a good strawberry shake. Around 1:00pm PUSHROD starting jamming away. The seem to get better everytime I see them. Lots of cool songs. Thank Mike for playing this show. It made the show so much different with a live band and showed how much this show has actually grown.

As always this show ends to early for me. It seems like you just get there and it is time to leave. I know it is not but it just goes by so fast. Got to see lots of friends, Hambers, met some new friends, and had a blast.

Awards time rolled around and we got to give the Dirty award to a 34 5w coupe. It is always hard to pick a Dirty award cause it has to have 3 pedals, gots to be driven, and gots to be cool. This 34 had al l of that, He has driven it everywhere and more that we have been, its got three pedals and a SBC, and he loves driving it.

Robert's COupe ended up with 2 awards which meant alot to me . Kinda gave me goosebumps knowing somoene else likes it too,

Thank Jamie and the rest of the Kustom Kings for the great hopsitality that yall show each and every year. This is such a cool little show that I cant miss ever. Yall are doing something good and seein that little boy made it all worth the while to by a extra t-shirt and buy more raffle tickets. TOO COOL!!!! thanks

Rusty since I always drive the coupe I had no idea how much attention that car gets. I am glad you got to give it the Dirty blessing by laying some rubber on the street. You just needed to see my shit eating grin on my face seeing you drive my coupe, probably just as bad on yours. Thanks again for the help on the carb. And also for the pic's.

It just dawned on me that, that will be the last show with pics from those stairs. And it will be the last time I see that building. I did have to cross a police line to take them. If I had know prior to crossing that line that the police had been on strict 24 hour watch over it I would have thought twice.

    To cool, but to sad!!!!!!!

  24. I was standing under the awning listening to Jason talk about how the cops were busting people like crazy for being around the building when I turned around to see Rusty standing up on the front steps to get that shot. My first thought was how the hell did he get up there? Then I noticed a shady looking character standin by a section of the fence that appeared to be involved in the incident, this was confirmed when he pulled up the fence just as Rusty squeeked under it, just as the on duty officer made an appearance...Im thinkin he probably watched the whole thing from inside Watsons, but didnt want to turn loose of his burger long enough to say anything! lol

Wow-Those pics made me realise I need to get home more often.

The yellow and white merc(?) was the first custom car I recall seeing as a kid. I believe Johnny Jones owned it. Anywho, he pulled into the car wash one afternoon to detail it while my mom was washing the family van, and even though im sure i was annoying him, he took the time to explain to me what a "chopped top" is and so forth. Even let me sit in it. Im betting that has been at least 20 yrs ago. That will help to remind me in the future when a little one is interested in my ride, to put out the effort to encourage his curiousity. Maybe a small chance I'll help influence the next genereation in this hobby.
