As an automobile collector, I cannot imagine how a bill like this can be even conseidered, let alone passed...to even consider removing a car from a person's private property without any sort of warning, or due process, is tatamount to Big Brother...many states voted on and defeated the "imminent domain" law this past November...and found out the voting public didn't like that one either...I urge you to work to defeat another law simply designed to take away the average person's individual rights.

  5. i love old cars, but in this case, i'm kinda torn. i'm from southern ohio, and whenever i go back home, i realize how filthy and junky it is up there. i rarely see classics sitting around, usually old cavaliers, vans, busses, all kind of crap that SHOULD be hauled off and scrapped. i'm no tree hugger, and i don't mind old cars lying around, but if you've got 10 of 'em parked all around and not moving (i know some that are still in the same spot from when i was a kid), then get rid of them. i love southern ohio and would like to see it cleaned up. this bill may not be the best way to do it, and i really feel for those hot rod guys who are at risk. i know i'm far away in texas, and would probably be more concerned if this law was gonna be passed in texas (if it hasn't been, i'm sure it won't be long), but to be honest, my little town could use some cleanup as well.

mabye grandfather classics or something? i dunno. i'm no lawmaker! anyway, good luck with the fight.

  6. hey Negative, do you think the bill will stop at poor white trash? Do you think maybe giving power to local officials to enforce as they see fit might give more people less right to live life in a free country? just wanting to pick on the poor bastards that can't afford high end collectibles. yeah thats a great idea.
giving up any rights that were promised by our forefathers is not an option!! did they ever fix them Ohio voting machines?

My question is: What the hell difference does it make if it's '87 Yugos or Deuce coupes being hauled off and scrapped by representatives of the state? Why should ANYONE's property be hauled off without due process? Who should decide what is a classis, so to speak? Even if the car has returned to the earth being nothing but yard art, denying due process of the law is flat out wrong! Who decides what needs hauled away? There is a house not too far from me...Grumpy would know where, which has a bunch of mid-late '60s Oldmobiles rotting in the yard. They have tags and have been there the almost 5 years that i've lived here. I live in a small city, don't leave pileed up parts outdoors for any length of time as a rule and keep my yard respectable. But I generally have a couple of non-operable cars around for parts or project material. My old circle track cars sit out side occasionally, as does my trailer which I only license in the spring and summer when I'm using it.. The whole deal sound very unconstitunal to me.I'm going to search for a link to the legislation, hopefully post it here and begin writing. BTW, 'Negative", why would you care what our yards looks like? You don't live here anymore, so fuck it! Worry about Texass.....

Jan...white trash, pissed and proud of it!...

Amen, brother. The fascists here in the land of fruits and nuts tried this shit until thousands of us showed up at the state capitol with blood in our eyes literally screaming at them. Lock and load.

  19. I think that you Ohio folks need to track down who wrote and submitted this bill and run a campaign to get them the hell out of office, or otherwise impede their ability to cause these problems. If nothing else this bill is another attack on people's property rights, and there's enough of that crap going on already.

I'd suggest set them up for a fall from some crime, but in a country where a guy can drive his car off a bridge and drown a girl and be a successful senator, there's not many sure things - and the ones that are are most definately illegal.

How disenchanting is this? I go to SEMA's page where you can look up the State Automotive Enthusiast Leadership Caucus people from each state and only found TWO supporters from Ohio. Out of that unbelievebly long list of people above that ems customer service posted, there are only TWO who proclaim to be supporters enough to join the SEMA effort. I'm guessing no one else on that list has the backbone to stick their neck out on this kind of issue.

Looks like I got several dozen e-mails to send. I might even make some phone calls too. This is serious. While I have my shit garaged, not all of us are that lucky and we all need to stand together on this one.

I took the time out from watching my car rust to post these representatives.Sitting on my ass and waiting for them to come for mine is not the only course of action. If we don't make the fight along the way,the fight is allready lost when they come for yours.

I called a couple State offices and got to talk to one real person and one answering machine AAARRRRGGGHHH! And this guy prolly wonders why he got voted out this last time around. The one that I spoke to said that they really are only interested in you stance, for or AGAINST said bill and your zip code to keep track of what areas are leaning what way. She did take my name, address and phone number though.

Anyway, when you make a phone call, make sure you say you're calling in reference to a STATE bill. It makes a difference.

And as far as e-mailing, I took the liberty of putting all the above names in a more Outlook 'friendly' layout. Just copy and paste this list, it's make it faster and easier.

Come on folks. We gotta get on the ball in this one. I just called six Senator's offices and all but one said, "you're the first person to contact us regarding this Bill." WTF!?

Make some phone calls. If you send out and e-mail and you get one of those auto-responses, call the number that they give you. I can't believe no one else ahd called before me. One guy who answered the phone had no clue that there was even a Bill 560!

People seem to take the traditional position of sitting on their traditional asses, until all their traditions are legislated away

  30. the link on the sema action network page is outdated, this scrappage was reactivated late last week, in a effort to get it passed before the new govenor gets into office. a lot of bills are being activated in the few last week of gov tafts admistration, typical bs politics. below is the news update we recieved from sema today, i confirmed this by speaking with dist 7 rep kenny yuko (our friend)this morning and said it is coming for a vote on thursday. i will speak with him tomorrow wendsday to get a update.

    URGENT LEGISLATIVE UPDATE

    THEY NEED TO HEAR YOU!
Ohio Bill to Restrict Inoperable Project Vehicles
to be Considered on Nov. 30th

Ohio Representative Larry Wolpert’s office indicates that he has received over 300 e-mail messages opposing H.B. 560, the bill to allow townships to confiscate inoperable vehicles deemed to be “junk,” including collector cars, from private property. However, he claims that the bill still has enough support to be approved by committee on Nov. 30th.

ALL members of the Local and Municipal Government and Urban Revitalization Committee need to hear from you now!

The SEMA Action Network supports legislation that permits the outdoor storage of a motor vehicle if the vehicle is maintained in such a manner as not to constitute a health hazard. These vehicles could be located away from public view, or screened by means of a suitable fence, trees, shrubbery, opaque covering or other appropriate means. H.B. 560, however, makes no concession for even properly maintained project cars.

Contact All Members of the Local and Municipal Government and Urban Revitalization Committee Immediately To Oppose H.B. 560
