    Welcome from Blackwater.

  7. Does anyone have any Missouri meetup's? There used to be a HAMB gathering at the HAMB Drags, and most events tend to have a HAMB "Hangout" of sorts. I'm located in Elkland and would love to do a breakfast gathering like "HAMB & Eggs" or a bbq like "MEAT & Greet" or something? Would anyone be interested in this sort of thing?

I imagine so. Doesn't have to be at a large gathering (i.e., hamb drags, NSRA, etc.). Besides, I can't think of any more large gatherings like that this year in or around Missouri.

You set it up and I'll be there. I've set up a couple of them with folks from other boards. Just picked a particular restaurant and time and folks showed up. I bet there would be several in attendance. Another possibility would be to reserve one of the shelter houses at Bennett Spring State Park and have people bring picnic lunches OR something to BBQ on one of the park grills. OR any other state or city park. Most towns/cities have a park that would work well. Lake Ozarks has two state parks. Know anyone who owns a lake house that would allow a bunch of strangers in? Bothwell State Historic Site (just north of Sedalia on US-65) has picnic tables and you can tour the castle. For that matter any of the "roadside parks" along older highways could be a good gathering spot. Those are all over the state. There's even one on Mo-5 south of Boonville. I mention that one 'cause it has shade trees. Some do and some don't. There should be several places along old US-66. Lebanon has a city park right on old 66 that has a shelter pavilion. Does the racetrack at Wheatland have any facilities that could be used? Maybe before or after a race where folks could see a race and have a hamb meet-n-greet?

The ones I mentioned are in your part of the state. There are places all over the US that can work. Possibilities are endless.

    Etc., etc., etc...

We talked about this a few years ago and @Austin kays just put the word out with a couple text messages or DM’s that we were gonna go have breakfast at the dinner by the river market in a couple days and every one was welcome.

Well turns out we were pretty free that morning because 15 plus cars pulled in full of people.

Kansas City has got a huge car scene, generally if it’s not to far in advance and too complicated a fair amount of guys will show up. But you generally have to be the one to get the ball rolling if you want something to happen

Unfortunately out here in the sticks there probably aren't 15 hot rods within 50 miles of where I live. @saltflats is about 25-30 miles from me. @fastcar1953 is about 50 miles from me. @Fat ASS Whitewalls is about 80-90 miles from me. If there are any more hamb folks closer to me I surely don't know who they are.

If you go to the member search you'll find hundreds. But most of them signed on many years ago, posted a couple of times, and haven't signed on since.

  13. I’m thinking the Boswell Park in Lebanon would be a great idea. Its a Route 66 themed park with a foutain and a few other roadside attractions. Thinking maybe wait til early October for cooler temps and less critters. I’ll drive out there and check it out and any input on a date is greatly appreciated!

I think you could go to a car show, some days up to 4 or more?, every single days for about 5 months out of the year in the KC metro. When we first moved here there was an every Saturday night gathering that brought thousands in. When they ended it after decades the reported on it from a news helicopter. It was wild, I’d guess 7,000 cars at a parking lot cruising type show

Boswell would be perfect. I have no idea, though, on how to go about reserving the pavilion. What is now Back Rhoads Diner used to be a really good mom-n-pop cafe and it's right across the street (old 66) from the park. That place changes hands on a fairly regular basis, though, and I haven't been there since it's been named this.

I'm probably wrong, but I think that there are one or more hamb folks in or around Lebanon. @Packrat is "near Lebanon" and logged in yesterday. Everyone else that lists Lebanon MO in the member search is WAY inactive. Like haven't signed on in 10-20 years.

On the date thing: I found out that unlike those of us who are retired, many of you folks are young enough to actually go to work M-F. Therefore, weekends will probably work out better. One time I set up something like this during the week and only two of us showed up.

Too bad you weren't there in the 1960's when Winstead's down at the Plaza was just like American Graffiti. They had carhops back then and you could get LOTS of cars in there. The parking lot today is a mere shell of what it used to be. I'm pretty sure that the nearby buildings and that little park weren't there back then. Today it's just an ordinary burger joint where you go inside and eat. If you have any graybeard hot rod friends who lived in/around KC back then ask them about it. They will know.

I tried to carry on a pizza party that a good friend started then passed over from cancer. I did it once it was around Christmas but had a good turnout. For me it was picking a date that worked for everyone. I need to try it again sometime and pick a different time of the year so weather doesn't have as big of a chance of making tough for out of towners to get there.

You should talk to the new promotor at Lebanon I-44 Speedway, he's pretty easy to get along with and they have other events there besides the standard saturday night stock car stuff, though that is good too.

I race down there when I've got time and gumption, DM me and I'll get you his contact info.

It's pavement. They'd probably let you drive around the racing surface. I don't know if they'd be down for push laps or not, but I've seen them let other car shows drive laps just to see the place from track level.

Place is hellatiously high banked. I want to say it's 28 degrees in the corners, and about 75 or 80 feet wide. If the track is clean, three wide is doable, though pucker inducing.

It's a really nice facility, all around really.

Kind of related, I’m planning to do a HAMB meet and greet next week at the FrogFollies. Sam
