Early the next morning we got up and started to disassemble camp.

It was cool to see the sunrise from the other side of the mountains

We also found what we thought would be an easier way out, back to the main road.

It was in the rough sense, a road, but it was all just silt and sand, so we wound up riding NEXT to the road and still going through the wilderness.

We did find some remains of a tower, and some walkways edged with rocks.

Once we made it back to camp, Erik and I went into Wendover for breakfast, and stopped back by the museum to talk to the curator about the crater.

we also stopped by the Enola Gay hangar.

    pretty neat stuff.

In an interesting turn of events, we went back to bonniville and hung out at the starting line for awhile, and saw "bockscar" (the name of one of the bombers stationed in wendover during the war)

We also got to see our favorite two stroke firebird run again, and saw this neat tribute to the triple nickle car.

once the last cars had run, we made our way back to town, where we had another parking lot dinner with the guys from omaha.

    Tomorrow, we head home.

Last morning at the salt, we got to see the sunrise while we packed up.

we wanted to get up the grade in salt lake before the day got hot, so we struck out early.

we went the north route, up towards Ogden, since it is a more gentle grade.

We stopped in Morgan for a break, and I reinstalled sunscreen

    It was a beautiful drive.

We then made a stop west of Evanston to see this hill full of old cars.

also checked the straps on my killer continental kit.

We then stopped in Evanston to fill up with fuel and have some sandwiches.

from there it was back on the road.

our next gas stop was Rock Springs, where we talked to a cool local guy about hot rods.
It was blazes hot by then, so we found a city park to take a nap in the shade.

Back on the road after our siesta, we made our way to Rawlins.

where we stopped yet again for more sandwiches and gas.

while there, we met Ben, a Rawlins local that had some old cars, and swung back by before we left and gifted us some little books that he had!

back on the road we put the hammer down for Laramie, and our hotel for the night.

Erik's car looked good in the sunset.

once at our hotel, I emptied the car of everything, and Erik locked up his coupe.

once the Lee's caught up with us, we went to the Mexican joint down the street and had a hoot of a good time, eating burritos and talking about the trip.

    Tomorrow, HOME.

Early the next morning I got up, and got to look at the magazines ben had given us the day before.

    and the parking lot situation

I rolled my car back into the sunlight so I could get the window cleaner to dry on the windshield.

Knowing I had 640+ miles to get home, Erik and I set off early.

We made it back to Pine Bluff, where we stopped and Erik jetted up.

We also had cover from the sun because of the wildfire smoke, so I switched to a set of long pants.

I didn't realize how close we were to Colorado till we stopped at the scenic view point that overlooks Julesburg Colorado.

we made it to North Platte, and the Lee's had caught up to us.

we made our way across the street to a parking lot to grill the last few steaks

This is where Erik stopped, cause he was meeting a friend nearby to do some racing the next day.

So I set out solo, for the last 350 miles.

I stopped for fuel in Kearney, and then my last fuel stop was in Lincoln.

before long I crossed the river

and soon after I was back in Missouri

    And then I was home.

After greeting the kids and wife, I rolled it inside and went upstairs.

Back in the shop, after 2640+ miles, and ten days on the road.

It was a ton of fun, but boy, I was pooped.

I've since spent a couple days cleaning the oil that Erik's flathead leaked on me on the trip, and some of the dirt that I got on the car, from doing doughnuts the entire trip.

This trip was fun, not because of the difficulty, but the ease of the trip.

I was able to use my newfound free time to help other people along the way.

Now go out and drive a hot rod.

Getting mine ready for a trip from Pa. To Ky. For lloydfest lll. In a couple weeks. I just ditched the trouble free HEI and put in a Mallory dual point. I have it working pretty well and am now ready to make a big jump from trouble free single 4 bl to 3x2 Rochesters... I have a few little things to prep before i pull the intake. Maybe later today hopefully.
The week after Lloydfest is the TopSecret Drags in New York state, hopefully the new intake and dizzy set-up will be working well enough for some heads' up racing.
Joe, your model T hot rod adventures always stoke me up for my own adventures. IMG_20250814_124908.jpg IMG_20250814_125418.jpg

On a plus side that flathead blowing oil all over
your car for a couple days before you drive onto the salt is probably decent prep lol

Lol, yeah. Protects the car and "facilitates the tanning process" for the driver!

  20. Great trip! But, I am still concerned about this tire with the hole in it. I see the chrome wheel back on the car for the ride home and two tires/wheels strapped to the trunk. Did you end up with another tire for the front for the trip home or did you decide since Ol' Holey was good for over 100 on the salt he could make it home? LOL

Dave the spare is on the drivers front. Tire with the hole in it is strapped to the deck lid.

Haha Dave I understand the confusion, see, I swapped tires side to side on the front, mainly so the people passing me would get to see a matching wheel.

The other bigger tire under mine is Erik's rear spare. We figured between my old 15" wheel (with 'ol holey') and the other spare we could hobble anything to another exit in case of emergency.

Hey Big, Where was that tunnel that you went through? I knew there was one on I-70 west of Denver, but not on the route that you guys took. 60 Special
