Checker trivia: From 1933-1937, Checker was owned by the Cord Corporation, manufacturers of the Auburn, Cord, and Duesenberg cars.

I think Mr Cord owned the Checker Corp for a few years, but it wasn't really related to the Cord Corporation? The owners of both companies knew each other....

Anyways, back to Corvettes, I put the old Heathkit scope that Russ brought me, on the Corvette. Looks like the distributor wobbles a little, but it's sparking OK.

    Jim,
Does it tell you if the sparks are happening an equal distance apart of 45 degrees? Tells you if the lobes are worn unevenly. Which would then have an effect on spark timing in each cylinder to be different. Just a thought.

The video shows the superimposed image of all the cylinders, and you can see it wobbling back and forth a little. I expect there is a little bit of timing difference.

I still have to play with it more to get the "parade" pattern working right...

Does it have a raster pattern setting as well? ( wave forms stacked)

no, it's not that fancy. The Sun scope I had years ago did, but it also had a big TV picture tube, not a little 5" round CRT.

Mine was huge, but it also quit working, and I'm not very good at fixing 1970s TVs, unfortunately.

I can't believe it. Something built in the 20th century that Squirrel can't fix.

You can get electronic oscilloscopes pretty cheap these days, just plug on to a USB port on a computer notebook. Wonder how good something like this is:

I saved my scope from my shop in town when I closed it. It is a more modern brand that will do up to 8 coil on plug ignition systems, not that big of a piece of equipment. It's in storage for now.

Let's see...it's summer, so it must be time for another adventure.

Heading up north tomorrow. Las Vegas for overnight visit with friends, then up to Tacoma for the LeMons Rally--Cascades of Failure.

I think the car is mostly working ok, although that is subject to change without notice.

I made a few repairs recently. Nothing major. A new rear wheel bearing on the driver side last spring, and I replaced the cruise control module, as it had been getting flaky, after being in a dozen different cars over the past 15 years. And I added an Android Auto screen, which is probably going to just cause problems, since it's kind of too dim to see when the sun is out and the top is down.

I have them in the plastic tub in the trunk. Just inventoried...two sets of points, two condensers, one wheel bearing. Fan belt, a few small misc things, tool box, jack and stands. And lots of water to drink, and some for the car if it gets thirsty. Plus an extra quart of oil. I just did an oil change/lube, also.

  25. Good luck, Jim. Color me envious.

May I ask what cruise control you are using?

    Hey @squirrel
Here is my information, let me know when you are going to be at the Lemay museum, I will come down to say howdy. I assume you are comfortable wearing either a large or an extra large T-Shirt, just let me know what size and I will provide you with a nice Rooster shirt, which is one of my designs if you would like one.

Also one of the best drive ins for great food is the well known Pick Quick hamburger stand there in Fife, if you have time to enjoy it. You wont be disappointed!

    Thanks from Dennis.

that looks like fun! I'm planning to stay near the museum Thursday night. XL.

I have no idea when I'll get there. Also planning to meet up sometime with a couple other guys in the area who are going on the rally. It all depends on how the car does on the trip up, etc. And traffic :)

Rostra/Dakota Digital Globalcruise is in there now. .

Well you have my number, so you can text me when you are in the area.

Also as an added extra, and only if you have time, its not that far from Tacoma to Kent Washington, and on the Friday afternoons till late in the evening, there is this great gathering that goes on at a great venue
    at Binford's wrecking yard.

I will include the two links here that will let you see just how much fun this is.

    Enjoy from Dennis.
