One who knows how to raise a child properly. FYI, people dress up for church, family holiday events, special occasions.
I certainly had suits for such occasions when I was a kid, just like the other male members of my family. Not everybody were rubes in '56.

 

You are so right. Those short onramps and the lack of banking on curves makes for a real adventure.

 

"raise a child properly" "rubes"? That must be a hell of a view looking down your nose as you seem inclined to do!!
There's a lot more important aspects to "raise a child properly" than how they are dressed!! Proper respect for others and not talking down to other people is a good place to start. Too bad your parents didn't practice that!!!!!

Hercules motors were common industrial motors. I think they were also used for inboard boats, maybe Chris Craft.

As to LPG powered.
In the 1970's during a (pretend/fake) energy crisis a lot people were converting their mostly pickup trucks to LPG. Pickups because of the tanks.
Does anyone else remember the GM disaster converting gasoline engines to diesel? Diesel back then was about half the cost of gasoline...well it was considerably cheaper anyway.

Now it seems everything is crate engines. And yes you could buy short blocks, even long blocks from Sears. You could buy short and long blocks at Pep Boys into the 1990's

 

I agree with you about the scary turns. As far as opening up into more lanes just before the four level interchange, it's because there are several other freeways for drivers to get on once they have finished with the Pasadena Freeway.

I know the name. If you are talking about the musician Eric Vaughn, I don't know him but I know of him...

 

The Eric I was speaking of was the inventor of "REAL WHEELS" back in the 70's. also a co-worker at Pete Chapouris's shop in Temple City before SoCal Speed Shop and a friend to P-Wood or Pete Eastwood as well as Don Blair of Blairs old Speed Shop in Pasadena, all Hot Rodders from the 60's and on. Just curious, I heard he opened a shop in Monrovia doing hot rod stuff.
