Although not a lawn mower , still some great old machinery !! 1950s ,60s dig um mobile Couldn't find replacment parts for the original engine and gear reduction box , so had to replace still cool and works great , tow behind your vehicle ..
Tried to buy this one last summer. Couldn’t find the owner and was told he displays not sells. Thought it was cool.
it was air conditioned !!!! This is exactly what my fat butt needs !! I hate mowing the lawn and doing yard work , getting all sweaty , grass clippings in your shoes , bugs , dirt . Nope Only reason I do it is I don’t wanna have the crappiest house on the street . if I could I would pave everything no grass !! wife thinks I’m nuts
See someone revived this thread, here are two pictures of the only "1 of 1" I will ever own. This is a prototype! Perfect mower for a "carburetor guy". Jon
that is a mono mfg mower just like my atomic yardmaster. they are kinda rare and sought after, did you buy it??
these were never produced. that was a "what if" futuristic deal from back in the day... In my experience with bubbletop cars there is no amount of air conditioning that could possibly overcome the magnifying glass bubble enclosure.
@Moriarity I figured it was a prototype or one off , the cost would be astronomical for the average consumer in the 50’s. never thought of the “ magnifying glass “ I bet it would get toasty under that bubble . Still a cool idea , We installed a beach umbrella , cup holder , aooga horn , and Jaguar hood ornament on my dads lawn tractor up at the cottage . I have an exhaust stack with flapper and some chrome go-kart wheels I need to install when I get a chance to go up this summer . The neighbour get a huge kick out of the old man and his “ pimped out” ride on mower !
Fence your yard and get some sheep or goats!! Or piss off your neighbors and get a donkey... Hee Haw!!!!
Hey Mark. I shot that photograph of that lawn mower a couple of years before I joined the H.A.M.B. I had no idea of what it was or that it was that rare and collectible. I always have a camera with me, and I just thought it was so cool because of its shape. It was marked at $85.00, and since I refuse to do any type of yard work, it would have no place here at my house. You never can tell what will show up at the Portland swap-meet !
@VANDENPLAS , I saw an ad the other day on Fakebook for a Kubota stick steer with a air conditioned glass cab like a forklift! I forget the price, but you could pay a lawn service for several years for what it costs!
Put headlights on it, and mow at night! Alternately, equip with a front snow blade.................. Jon.
I saw a vintage Toro hover mower at a garage sale this year. Never heard of such a thing. Dude wanted like $500 bucks for it and it was a wreck tho.
Rusty Valley gave me all these old mowers plus the 2 posted earlier a few years back. Always planned on fixing a few up. Haven't got to yet.
My Dad made a Mower with an electric motor on it. GrandPa used to cut 2 acres of grass with it. With a 300Ft extension cord.( It must have had 12 splices in it.) I Learned not to unplug it on him when he was cutting the grass. Also that it was an early Brush Hog. After sharpening the Blade it would mow down small trees. About 1959 they bought a Montgomery Ward Riding Lawn Mower. So I got a new Job. when Grandpa hit 80.
yep sure do. dads was a "homeco" ?? white with orange trim . as soon as i was tall enough to be able to push it mowing became my job.
Good that this thread was brought back to life. This reel mower looks like one that was used to make a go-cart back in the day. Well, the engine and the drive mechanism at least. It gave the clutch mechanism so you could start the engine by yourself, hop on, and go! Not that dad was too happy about the old mower being taken apart… but let’s not dwell on that! And the Toro Hover Mower! Those things were wild!
