The farmer down the road has had this T 10 for several years now and finally pulled it out of the barn for me to look at. He's thinking it might be something that ran in a Jeep but, neither one of us can put a name to the thing. My thinking is that it has been on a piece of machinery. Anybody got any ideas?
could it be from a mid 60s Rambler? The case looks Ford, the tail looks like it could be for the later Rambler torque tube. They were not too picky about what transmission bolt patterns they used, I think Ford was one of them. More pictures would help...can we see the front of the transmission? as would the cast number on the tail housing.
Thats definetly from a 60's AMC/ Rambler, could have come out of a Marlin or Rouge, anything that would have had the 4 speed option really. I believe the last year for a torque tube on Ramblers was 66 with a few carryovers in 67. But that is a Rambler 4 speed.
I agree about the transfer case, and it looks like that is a ‘64-‘65 Ford T-10 with one of the bolt hole bosses trimmed off. Some Ford transmissions had the early/late bolt pattern. You can just see what’s left of the hole and the angle cut where it was trimmed.
Honestly I’m not sure. When I saw the post by @Nailhead Jason I wondered if he’s right about it being for an early ‘60’s Rambler. I know nothing about torque tube Ramblers. Regardless, it is a Ford dual pattern style main case.
I did some looking on a few Rambler/AMC sites and the t10 cores were $400 to $600. I'd figure out what it's for sell it and buy what you need.
Early Ford T10 with dual bolt (Butterfly) patterns. I wonder if it could be a similar early 1962 OD conversion, however they were installed between main case and extension housing?
Thanks to everyone who contributed answers. You guys are awesome. @squirrel and @Nailhead Jason got it right down to the nitty gritty. The one I posted has both top outside mount holes cut off just like the one squirrel found on Ebay. I'm printing off the Ebay ad so I can show the farmer.
I note that both ears were trimmed, similar to OP, a factory modification to clear transmission tunnel?
Can't say that I have...that input is twice as long (maybe 3X) as a big block toploader from a Galaxie for example..
The farmer was somewhat shocked to find out what he had and what the one sold for on Ebay. He's been a Ford guy all his life so I'm hoping one of these days, he'll decide to get off of the FE stuff, including 406 heads, he's got in his basement. Thanks again to all who helped.
This one does not appear to have the gearbox case and tail extension at an angle to each other like in the OP photos...What gives?
It reminds me of my brother's old lathe he has complete with a gm 3 speed transmission as a gear box. It's amazing how they adopted transmissions to use on different equipment.
i have one stashed away but for open drive shaft. came out of a 70 390 javilin. that long input says amc all day.
