I’m pretty excited about the build. It has a special meaning and purpose. I wanna say like 4 or 5 years ago my Man nils got this 27T roadster body out of California, it was last used as rear engine drag car, he couldn’t find any history on it. I bought the body from him and turned it into a TROG racer. Myself and some of the Tornados threw the car together in a few weekends, we kept it as a rear engine car....raced a few years at TROG than Pine tree jamboree in Maine.
Last years PineTree Jamboree was amazing, lots of laps put in but best of all was teaching my pals 14 year old daughter to drive my 32 roadster. She was a quick learner...we drove up and down the spare landing strip practicing starts and stops,,,,what to do if you get in trouble etc. By Sunday she was ready...she took the roadster down the track....4 times! It was so cool to see her parents cheering her on and the smile on her face. on the ride home I texted her dad Jim,,,,we should build her a car! So we are now tearing the 911 apart, converting it back into a regular roadster. Kayleigh Macevoy...a 14 year old girl will be its new owner and pilot.
The old body’s seen better days, gutted, torched and butchered. we used a crappy A frame, 41 Merc steering box, 36 rear end, hopped up 8ba, side shift transmission, 34 axle and 39 spindles. during the breakdown I kept most of the parts but the frame went to scrap.
It’s now on a much nicer A frame, the 34 front axle was installed. Model A rear end, model T rear spring with new shackles and bushings.
The previous motor was on loan from a club member so I dig into my stash and drug out a 50 8RT. My man Brandon donated a nice 38 toploader. I made some quick motor mounts and the motor went in.
The only steering box I had was a F100...so I fabbed up mount which put the box up and away from the pedals and the motor. Luckily the F100 pitman arm is long so the drag link is parallel with the bones.
My man Nils had a better cowl and a firewall so it was grafted on. from the get go the body had a funky twist, when you sighted it from the back you could see it. Once I cut the old cowl free the rest of the body sprung back into shape. hopefully this week I’ll get the subrails and cross channels made.
Whatta' go Hotrodder...looking forward to this reconfigure to this vintage go fast... I didn't even know it had already been reconfigured and saw action at Trog...I know you were trying to dig up some history on it... All good, @Pete will it be a licensed Hotrod or just a field racer in this next gen build?
she knows and has been saying “when can I help” I told her I was getting all the heavy fab work done...once it’s done she will be coming to the shop to help dial things in.
Thanks stogy I think this car will evolve into a high school hot rod for Kayleigh Her dads a nascar nut....she’s been around cars and trucks since she was born ..... she’s a real good kid
