I have one metal chop saw, and 3 or 4 wood miter saws. Is there a reason I can't put an oxide metal blade on one?

I believe there is a speed difference that makes a wood saw inefficient for metal. I've never tried it, but I bet it would work OK, just a lot slower.

Thanks. My metal saw says 3,500 rpm, the wood saws aren't with me right now.

  4. Metal chop saws run much slower 4-6 thousand rpm
    Wood saw 10-18 k

I’ve done it, check the speed rating on the disc your using snd the saw .
    It’s much slower and messier

Clamping the metal you are cutting might be a challenge on the Miter saw. My experience with my chop saw is that metal will want to jump around if you don't have it clamped down tight.
RPM seems to be close to the same on most miter saws that I looked up.. around 3800 rpm. Arbor is 5/8 on most of them.

I always had fiber wheels in my metal cutting chop saw. Went with a metal blade and it cuts like butter. No dust. Doesn't slightly walk like the fiber blade does sometimes through the cut. Love it. Not at home right now to call out the specific blade but never going back to the fiber wheels.

I would recommend only cutting aluminum with a metal blade on a wood miter saw. Too much rpm on that motor.

  9. Interested to hear more about this. Brand name? How long to they last? I have an old 12" chop saw and have only ever used the fiber blades.

  10. That's all I had for awhile. The wood saw has less power (amps), so go slower and use the least liked one as it will kill all the plastic. My Milwaukee metal chop saw is a metal shield and body, the wood one is all plastic and even had the top bag....."had" I melted a hole in the back :).

I put a metal cutting blade in a wood chop saw to cut 1x1" tubing for a wrath iron gate.
Blade lasted for about 20 cuts and was worthless after that.
