Hot Rods lowering shocks

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by Tony montana 2103, Jun 10, 2021.

  1. I want to lower my front end of my 53 bel air. I was going to cut the springs. is there a shock out there that I can purchase that will avoid me doing this and make it ride nicer? Maybe adjustable.

  2. Shocks don’t affect ride height,

you can get dropped uprights from a few different venders

    Lowering springs

    Or cut your original springs

  3. ok, thank you

Correct. Purely the spring that effects the ride height..!
BUT...you need to make sure that at full bottom of the spring, the shock is nOT bottomed. Other damage could occur.

Be aware that the correct '49 - '54 Chevrolet shocks are manufactured to allow full travel of the suspension - they won't bottom out or limit the drop of the control arm.
