We'll never know if the Jimmy Shine '34 pickup would have sold for more money painted, did ok in bare steel.
1957, Santa Clara High: Teddy DeMello showed me his recent '53 Merc install in his black '33 Tudor sedan... I noticed Brush Marks in the black Nitro lacquer...he told me the old man he bought it from said "Fresh black paint job!" My God...It was brush painted!!! I worked on the car daily, but Teddy wanted it nice and shiny. I asked, "What about the brush marks?" He said, "They'll go away..." We waxed that black b*stard every 2 days, in front of famous drag pilot Eric Bracher's home farm, under the big weeping willow tree...with Vista wax! (important) I swear, after a month (+) of waxing and cheesecloth rubbing, (whew!) guys would come up and ask who painted it. Brush marks gone, beautiful paint. Black, yet! I never would have believed it...Maybe it was 2 months, thinking back. My '27 tub might get the Brush.....Doubt I can get Petey E. to come up and help...
I raced him in his tub in Ventura Ca in my red 29 Ford roadster with a nail head, 2 cool red model "A" going off, beat him. Anybody have a picture of that race?
