Pete's first Top Gas Woody car started out with his usual small-block Chev, then he got the Ford deal, and installed a small-block Ford in the car. There are pictures of the SBF without an idler pulley online.

I plan on taking it to the Nitro Revival event in November to have the west coast greats take a crack at it...there's still room for more Legends to place their names

  13. PS: The back story on this item revolves around the big dent you can clearly see in the picture...and here's that story:

What happened was Bob Creitz was pushing the dragster with Hanna in it when the push bar somehow slipped and he ran into the back of the seat.
Tom had Corey Conyers make and paint a new one and Tom had everyone sign this one (Most are from Bowling Green 2009) and planned on giving to Bob as a gag gift but unfortunately, he passed before that happened so Tom told Corey to box it up and there it sat until somehow, someway...it found it's way to me.

  17. The picture of the twin Chevrolet dragster is the Howard Cam Special, also known as the Twin Bear. It doesn't have the plywood front that was installed to provide some streamlining. The dragster was driven by Jack Chrisman. Several years ago at the Pomona swap meet I bought the Howard chain drive blower covers, and 1 of the 4-71 blower manifolds. The manifold that I got was milled down and had the blower moved to the side for clearance.

    Hello,

Nice find of one of the earliest photos of the Stromberg utilized big MEL motor from H&H Garage Automotive in So Cal. Ted Ishimaru was a talented racer. His exploits went from drag racing to hydro hull top fuel drag boats in So Cal. A true talent, mechanic, builder and driver of the MEL powered FED.

By 1959, my brother and I were racing at Lion’s Dragstrip almost every Saturday. This dark maroon MEL powered dragster always held our attention in the pits, tuning, repairing, being friendly while answering questions, and definitely racing.

The color shows a dark maroon, then, later, a black tint with gold scallop highlights. Either way, it was an impressive build and race car/driver.
