Bernie Riegels "A&B Speed Shop" injected Chevy racing Joe "The Jet" Jackson at Sanford, Maine. Joe built his own fueler and towed it to the West Coast. Out of money, he agreed to drive another top fuel car, though warned against it. The car crashed and Joe died from the impact.

  7. Rapid Red Lange. Part of his "Dead End Kids" crew were Joe Anahory, and Spider Razon who both later gained fame on the west coast.

Pictures like this without a story? Inquiring minds (really) want to know the details.

    Agreed.
Also, Pete was known for NOT running an idler pulley on the blower belt.

  14. That may be Julius Hughes, but Pete did run idlers on his cars. You may be thinking of the Surfers.

    Hmm, maybe so.
Coulda sworn I'd seen some of his early cars without the idler pulley.
    Just did some looking....nope, nuthin.

  16. Pat, I noticed Jack Merkel's name on the cowl. But I couldn't see who the welder was. Was it Henny's welding ?

I thought it was a drag car exhibition on a carrier, but after reading it looks like it was a 4 door car found in the Philippines in 1978, painted up with the logos then launched out to sea.

I thought it might be Pete Robinson's as the tin valve covers probably weighed less than the cast aluminum ones.
