I used to make albums and all that stuff is still out there. But, I also haven’t added anything in several years now. I just went back and looked through my album pics and was reminded of a few HAMB projects I was involved in specific to social groups.

Yup...me too. That is Sid Drapal's (www.droppedaxles.com) pickup that he has probably had about 25 years or so now. I remember when he picked it up and it was a nice pickup other than the ugly 90's Champ 500 wheels. He lowered it more in the back and swapped the wheels. Made a huge difference.

  8. Every photo I post in a HAMB thread I have stored it here in an album first. When I first signed up on the HAMB I noticed a lot of threads with pictures that had changed to red X's and figured this was a good way to get around that ever happening to me.
Not sure if that is fool proof, tho....

Don, if I knew about the feature, I've forgotten about it, I've never used it. I didn't know anyone did. I"ve posted a lot of photo threads here in the discussion forums, never in my profile. I have so many pictures, I could probably take up all of Ryan's server space.

OK, so I started looking around at albums, to see what others have done, and I came across this one. How cool is this, @dana barlow 's firsts hot rod? Dang Dana, that brings back memories of go carts we used to make, only we used old Briggs and Stratton lawn mower engines for power. We were livin' high! How many of us got our start like this? :D Awesome photo Dana!

  24. I find it a pain in the ass to add photos, I don't have the patience to do 22 steps to add a photo, you would think in modern times there would be a simple "add images" button to click.

    20200403_093555.jpg

Just to get to that photo you have to click

    20210313_002633.jpg

    Then click

    20210313_002616.jpg

    Then click

    20210313_002701.jpg

    Then click

    20210313_002539.jpg

Then that leads to your albums that you have to click an album then scroll through to find your photo.
That's just for one photo !
    Now imagine making an album

  25. Never seemed quite that involved when I've done it or I likely wouldn't have done it either. I guess because I usually retrieve images that I already have stored in my downloads or scans on my desk top, it seems a lot simpler than that.

Yes.I agree Don..using a phone might be a bit more complicated...I just use images from the HD and desktop.
Phil.. the phone thing might be the culprit.

  27. .....I think that's it, Jeff, 'cause I just added 6 or 7 images that I had already stored and it took like 2 or 3 steps and about 30 seconds.................And, I'm not the most computer literate person in the world for sure.:(

    Hello,

The HAMB album pages are a nice addition, but some take advantage of that to store their photos. That is wearing down the usage of the website and then the complaints start. The albums are fine, if there are a few shots of different builds. But, the whole step by step build should only stay on your own computer files. Also, the albums need to be just your own photos and not copies of photos from the web.

As always, the hot rod guys on the HAMB have made some cool cars over the years. It is nice to see them once in a while. So, take care in what you post and if you are having problems scrolling or finding a photo, it is the amount of photos and the organization.

    Jnaki

On my own laptop, I have photos of stuff that I have taken in various places, hot rods, drawings of various models, and specific cars that I have shot at shows or features. There are over 1400 photos the last time I checked. How could anyone find a specific photo in all of those photos. Well, organization is the key. If you label each photo, drawing or all-in-one photo, eventually, you will have too many and finding them is a nightmare.

So, for organization sakes: label each drawing or photo of what it is: 29 Model A chopped sedan… then a 29 Model A roadster, etc. so, when you look for a 29 Model A anything, you scroll down to the “29” year section and find your choices. Or for simplicity, use your computer/laptop search mode and type in 29 Model A, and up pops several files with that same title.

One other way is to make a separate folder and title it 29 Model A and put all of your Model A photos in it. The HAMB does not have that capability, as far as I know. Even in the HAMB search drop down window, unless you remember the exact wording of a title, and/or who wrote it, the pop up result says The HAMB … no results found.

For those that want a simple system for finding anything in a large file, title each by year. That is the easiest for me. Then if there is no specific year, then 1965 title typing and others will fall in place. (55 Chevy, 1959, 31221, or speed sport) the 29 Model A will pop up before the 55 Chevy, etc. Finally, alphabetical topics or photos are last. The scroll tab on a word document or windows file page is really fast and from top to bottom, it takes a few seconds.

I do go through weekly to delete some duplicate files or different looks of drawings with color or shapes. Still, I am a little embarrassed to have those 1400 files. This week, I will probably take that total down, at least 200 files or photo arrays. Duplicates or slight variations do take up a space or two.

There are quite a few that have tons more photos, but what is the use of taking up space that a website needs to keep it running smoothly. Plus, if you can’t find the photo fast, what is the use of storing it on the HAMB? If your own computer is slow, get rid of those copies photos, copied prints or articles from magazines. ‘’

My wife has a theoretical way to look at the items saved… if you haven’t used them or at least looked at them in a while, for her, it is a week, then delete them or move them to a permanent storage unit, like a 2tb external hard drive. The mini flash drives will eventually get filled up, unless they also are in the high gb storage group. The 1, 2, 3 tb external hard drives will take years to fill up for most folks.

Thank you Don for bringing this up, I've found a new way to waste, err, to spend time. ;) some really great stuff there. @Dean Lowe 's albums are chock full of vintage drag racing photos, just outstanding stuff. Check out the 554 coupe album, holy crap! Thank you Dean for sharing. Now I know the inspiration for Brian Bass's Monkey Pecker coupe.

And @Jeff Norwell 's albums are filled with killer photos as well as his artwork. Jeff has a well developed eye for traditional hot rod styling, and it shows in his photos. Great way to spend some time.

And there are a lot more albums loaded up, ton's of inspiration ideas, almost too much. It would be great if there was some way to do a search for specific topics, cars models, years, etc. Of course, the photos or albums would all have to be titled correctly or that. Oh well, it's still a great resource that I didn't even know about before.

So I have a question. What is the etiquette for using photos from other's albums (not your own)? I ask for a couple of reasons, but mainly to avoid insulting someone for grabbing one of their photos, or have my own photos used without giving credit. So just curious what the thoughts about that are around here.
