Wife's mom on the right with her sister and friend guessing around 1950. The home made skate boards don't come any more honest than that!

The ....BOLT signage in the background, as in Wiebolt Dept. Store gives this away as the intersection of Dearborn and Madison streets in Chicago, 1940’s.
Wiebolt’s was at State and Madison which BITD was known as the “Busiest Intersection in the World”.

Does that “cab” have an open back begins the door that appears to be a suicide style rear door. Or am I seeing things. Does it have an awning style cover?

My Jr. High girl friends older brother had a 40 Ford convert. with a Olds engine and ran with no hood. Love 40 Fords with out a hood. Ron

Just the other day I said if you never make a mistake you aren’t posting enough. Well, I was wrong this evening, in looking for info on that Checker cab I learned that at the touch of a button the driver could lower the rear portion of the roof for an open air experience. The sun shade was available to keep the direct sun off the passengers.
My mistake was thinking ....BOLT was for Wiebolt, it was in fact Lebolt Jewelry Store at State and Washington
    streets.

  21. Hey Jimmy six,
If the girl in that picture was walking the other way,
You wouldn't even notice the roof of that car!

Yes, it is a Checker. Lots of them in NYC in those days.
