  3. I’d never belong to a club that would have me as a member

  4. Currently a member of a O/T car club, Columbia River Camaro Club, formed in 82. Then the Camaro Club is a member club of the Multnomah Hot Rod Council which I am a member of as well. The MHRC has been around since 1954. In the past been a member of the Northwest Lowriders.

Learned my lesson, no car clubs for me!
The petty politics were too much for me.

  10. Just a loose knit bunch of friends. We probably wouldn't get along if we actually made it a "club".:) 20151126_0923432_zpsuspeggab.jpg 11202014.jpg thumbnail (13).jpg thumbnail (6).jpg Fireworks With 32s on July 4th.jpg

Nope, like many others in this state, I'm only a member of the hot rod body as it's a mandatory state DOT requirement for registration. These days others are jumping ship and using engineers for licensing as they're fed up with the politics, direction and empire building etc.

I subscribe to the old Groucho Marx quote "I refuse to join any club that would have me as a member."

When asked to join any local car clubs, me and my buddies reply that we are already members of the "Old Farts Club," our club has no dues, no meetings and no rules.

    Nope, none, zero, zip.
We did belong to the MSRA for a15 years or so, but didn't re-up for 2020. Turned out to be a good choice because the 50s was cancelled anyhow. Not sure what we'll do for 2021, depends on if the show happens I guess.

I have to go right with what gotta56forme said, I was a member of a club in Texas in the 70's and enjoyed it and thought about joining the "big club" here in the Yakima area when we moved back up here in 1977 and my wife and I went to one meeting and decided that we didn't need the drama.
Not that we don't like and respect the clubs but I'd rather go to the events that I want to go to rather than be required to go where the club is going, I'd rather go out to eat where I want to rather than go where the club goes and even stay at the motel or camp ground of my choice than where the club decides it is going to stay.
Truthfully I'd rather meet up with a bunch of people that I enjoyed being around at events and park with them and do a few things with some of them over the weekend.

Over 40 year ago I was a charter member of a 48 and older street rod club . Didn't take long for me to bail. Never again! No club for me.

My dad was in this club in the late 50’s thru early 60’s out of Sioux City. I started this club again with a very small number of friends. Not sure if we can really be considered a “club” but we have plaques and jackets. 5011620C-3AE7-4E1C-9633-241A3CBA076B.jpeg 7D4E1972-D709-4827-977E-95F43B778D80.jpeg CB7DB43E-B5DB-467E-8FC0-CE6C9F666CEF.jpeg 214EBE03-B198-4550-B328-F094CBC8B209.jpeg

I've been a member of 3 different clubs over the years, but haven't been a member of any for over 30 years. Part of that was moving a few times, changes of interest, family, etc.. Now I have two different groups of "car guy" friends who get together once a month for dinner and a BS session. It's easier. No dues, no bickering, no officers, just enjoying time with friends who share a similar interest. Sometime the topics at dinner hardly even touch on cars, but most are still car enthusiasts and working on projects, or at least have a past that involved hot rods and racing but just got older and tired of doing it.

Maybe some clubs are different, but the clubs I belonged to rarely had members hanging out at each other's shops much less actually helping with a fellow member's project. To me, that's what a car club should be, but I'd bet most are more like my once-a-month get-togethers but with a lot of added drama and hassle.

I am glad there are car clubs that put on shows and swap meets though.....it gives all of us somewhere to go. I admit, just saying that does make me a bit of a hypocrite.:(
