Borne out by mathematics. As we age, it seems the years go by faster because the older we get, each year is a smaller percentage of our life. To a five year old, one year is 20 percent of their life, so it seems like a big chunk of time. To a fifty year old, one year is only 2 percent of their life. A very small bit of time.
