So I'm getting Diamondback Auburns in the next couple of days, they'll be here. I took of my skirts off, which I hadn't done since buying the car 3 yrs ago. The car has been converted to GM bolt pattern and has wide rallys. I freaking love the way it looks! Its a little hot rod and a little less traditional but it fits the look of the car anyway. What do you guys think? 20201006_114613.jpeg 20201006_113243.jpeg

Rally wheel bullet cap.jpg Highway patrol rally cap.jpg Those wheels would look great on my 48 Chev pickup and I did have a set on it in 1973 but they just don't look right on the Merc to me. To me Mercs need white walls and hubcaps.

Then again, with fresh red paint on the wheels, some "highway patrol" caps and old style beauty rings (not rally wheel rings) and maybe you have a nifty look that would fly.
That bigger looking cap above the rally wheel cap is a rally wheel bullet cap from a Chevy trinket vendor. They are a bit spendy though https://www.classicchevy.com/chevy-rally-wheel-center-cap-bullet-style-stainless-steel-1958-1984-40-329093-1.html?utm_source=bing&utm_medium=cpc&utm_campaign=PLA&scid=scbplp40-329093-1&sc_intid=40-329093-1&gclsrc=aw.ds&&utm_campaign=sc_shopping_broadterms&msclkid=f418bc5088c617fe52f1e32c2231196a&utm_term=4583108064616534&utm_content=All Products

I like it! Clean those suckers up, fresh paint (I like shiny) on the wheels and roll.

It looks fine without the skirts but looks better with them.

Corvette rallys look good on my avatar too. But I covered them up with 57 Caddys and wide whites.

I like the way it looks too. I would run it as is because you "freaking love the way it looks!" That is the most important thing. Keep the white walls and put them on in the Spring. Enjoy the new look for a while. I prefer the Skirts and wide whites but I get your dilemma... Lol!

Your car and do what makes you happy, but I see Mercs of that year as more of a custom cruiser than a hot rod so I would say skirts with the whitewalls.

Overall, I like it. I like 49-51 Mercs without skirts. It needs wide whitewalls. Maybe paint the wheels gloss black.

If it were mine: skirts, sombrero’s, medium whitewalls.
But the fact that your question involves the words “I freaking love the way it looks!” Seems to answer the question. In the words of Jim Croce: If you dig it, do it. If you dig it a lot, do it twice!

Run it either way as the mood strikes you.
You aren't the first to not run skirts on a Merc.LOL

Can I ask what color/application that red is on your Merc?

The look without skirts, sporting those mud tires and reversed wheels?
Kinda like dressing down our Supermodel First Lady in dirty pants and old hobnail boots.
    But don't mind me...I just like it...RIGHT.
