Hi, Junji -- that's a good question...I have never seen the Kolb and Voigt roadster without flames, first one at Bonneville, from the Wayne Koeppe collection: Kolb voight WAYNE KOEPPE Collection.jpg

Then he raced this version, Lew DeLew III photo at Lions...so I am not sure that the white roadster is Lelands, but I am going to have to dig deeper in my memory to figure out who it is.

May I post the bottom photo on the Chassis Research FB page that I moderate? I will of course give you credit. Do you know anything more about the photo?

    Hey Dave,

Your information is correct. I was wondering if they did not re-do the flames. But, who in their right mind would alter original CRAB CLAW flames from that era? (unless he split from the Fritz Voight partnership and started over...) Thanks for the information. The only thing I had from that era, other than a fading memory of being Leland Kolb is that the Howard Cam influence. In 1960, my brother was a Howard Cam fanatic and we had several parts from them on our 1940 Willys C/Gas Coupe that had a 671 SBC motor.

He may have told me to film that white roadster, as with others that had the Howard Cam influence and cool sticker on the sides. I have seen those early photos of the red "Crab Claw" flames on the white roadster from other research and wondered IF they could have finished a different roadster in 1959-60.

    Thank you, again...
    Junji

Hoping for some results of your deep thought research... This naming thing of the early films I took is a little cuckoo. I have asked other older drag racing guys and they, too drew a blank. So, thanks for your efforts.

During the COVID racing Hiatus of the NHrA they should have been playing significant vintage races from over the years in the NHRA spots such as Pomona 64, Lions Final Race, Indy 78 with the Snake Vs Mongoose Final, Return of Big In The 80s etc. that would be nice to see again.

It's not in motion anymore. I'll bet that got his attention. Hope nobody was hurt.

  25. This did not happen very often. Not sure who is in the near lane, but he's out on Sirokin, and that is a rare happening.
