Another view from a few years ago. My buddy Lonnie leading in a 61 Starliner, followed by Ron in a 61 Catalina, then Jim in a 62 Impala and me in the back in my 62. We are on surface streets in Sioux City heading to a Mom and Pop restaurant for breakfast. This was a trip from Sioux Falls to Des Moines, all on secondary roads, to attend a Goodguys show. 100_0082.jpg

Just off the boat 6mths ago and the other day, we drive on opposite side of road so I'm not driving into oncoming traffic or overtaking. Nothing nicer than seeing the 2x4 air-box through the back of the hood. Would love a HR intake and heads for Christmas.:D
If you get caught driving here whilst using your phone it's a huge fine. Double demerits / fines etc during some holiday periods.

    Hello,

While we were on our last road trip with the whole family, my mom needed to stop by the side of the road to get some clarity. It was the last family trip and she was a little sad. But, on this long driving road trip with two big teenagers in the back seat, she was happy as a lark. So, on the way home, she decided to take a movie of the side views and through the windshield of our 2 door, 1957 Buick Roadmaster. She normally does not take any photos, let alone movies, but we gave her the movie camera just for fun.

As we were winding around corners and downhill dips, she got a little woozy looking through the small viewfinder. So, she asked to pull over. Then as she felt better, she spots something unusual in the woods, just ahead. She takes out the 16mm movie camera and starts recording at what we thought was just some woods.

To our surprise, she saw a deer in the woods, then it pounced across the road in front of the 1957 Buick. What a catch for a novice photographer. After weeks of the vacation and film processing, she could not wait to see it on the giant movie projector screen.

At home, I had to set up the movie projector several times for her and her friends that came over for a visit. She was proud of the film that she shot and was the narrator, as I showed the film. Not the boys, and not the dad, but the films that she personally shot from within the 1957 Buick Roadmaster.

a road in Kauai leading to Hanalei in the North Shore…

    Hello,

These days, since we cannot go anywhere in our cars, here is a shot thorough a windshield at some interesting highway obstructions in the middle of summer, a long time ago on an island in the Pacific Ocean. They were common happenings all along this highway from one end of the island to the other side.

This photograph was taken by my wife on the road back to our friend's vacation house. In going through our photo files recently, we immediately thought of our mess of a shortened vacation road trip on the mainland. I guess the last time we drove through the Midwest 10 years ago, there was a similar road obstruction that lasted for an hour, plus road construction in the highway ahead. That, put a damper on our long, cross-country planned, road trip to the Eastern Seaboard.

In this Kauai highway photo above, we were in a place with no way to turn around and head for home. We just plodded along at a horse’s pace. Time slows down being surrounded by tons of water. We also just had plenty of time on our hands, after all, it was an island paradise vacation...

My wife’s favorite saying in times like these: “What else were we doing?” But, just outside of St. Louis on Highway 44, one Summer, we got stuck and decided to break. At a nearby convenience store, the guy told us to take a highway (44 TO 7) that led directly to Kansas City. My wife took over and through the Ozark lake area, we were in Kansas City in record time.

Then after a few days resting from that ordeal, "We were not in Kansas anymore..."

That route took you out of your way about 80 miles but the scenery is way better.

    Hey L,

YES...That is what the convenience store clerk told us. But, it was either go back and follow his advice or sit in traffic for the next 3 hours. My wife took over driving and she was lead-footing it through the lakes area and into KC. Sunny all the way and then rain for a day in KC. It was disappointing that we did not get to finish our road trip to the Eastern seaboard.

But, heading West gave us insights to travel that we would not have seen on the way home. (We had planned on a Northern route originally heading West, Great Lakes, North Dakota, Montana, Idaho, etc.) That included the Plains, Rockies, the National Parks and even a sunset cruise on a Lake Powell flat bottom boat. That detour was supposed to happen as the rest of the week was pretty outstanding on the way home. A new adventure...

    Jnaki
We loved K.C. the food, people we met, and places we walked around and enjoyed. It was a respite from all of that madness in the Midwest, Summer, road construction, traffic jams. From that point Westward, there were a lot of "Roads Through Our Windshield..."
The Eastern seaboard will be some time in the future…

  28. Speaking of the eastern seaboard, here's a shot from the Ocean City boardwalk during last years Cruisin OC... The car is a '55 Desoto Fireflite. 221.jpeg
