So after ordering a 4x2 carb set up , it got me thinking of what to do on the rest of the motor.

Distributor = I have an old dual point Mallory that can rebuild , or I could go with a magneto.... then came the thought of rear or front mounted magneto...

Wires= I ordered white and brown cloth wrapped wires ( cut to fit ) thinking that would help pull in a better look .

Valve covers = lots of aftermarket finned ones , but I currently trying to find some period correct / vintage ones ... hoping to find something obscure... but that's been a challenge.

As for the front pulleys, alternator, brackets and such ... I'm kinda at a lose as what to look for that would tie it all together..

I have parts to put it all together, no problem, but it's just all that chrome tin stuff, yuk...

So what iam asking really , is any ideas on what names or companies I should be after to help accomplish this

How old do you want it to look? Pick a year...that will be the basis for what parts you need.

  3. What squirrel said, a specific year your eyeing would be a big help.

Corvette valve covers/ or cal custom finned (no oil hole or pvc valve) no bolt hole heads, small harmonic balancer, dual point dist., definitely a generator, short water pump, single pulley.
Then again I’m a Chevy guy so it takes a lot to impress me when I see a sbc in a hotrod. If the small block has anything remotely from the later smog era I’m usually not overly impressed. But then again it’s not my car.
However; with that being said a 4x2 intake would definitely get my attention.

  5. Do you think those wires and that 4x2 setup are in the same era, personally I've never seen those wires used on any sbc, even the 265 had black wires.

  8. Thank you for the post my friend. I'm definitely considering a generator!

Swade-41 is right. Never saw cloth wrapped plug wires on sbc.

I’ve always been partial to old Vette covers, chromed says Hot Rod. Don’t forget your stagger bolt heads... C4212544-78BE-4EA7-8EF6-F6BFE3CCE00A.jpeg

If you grind off the oil filter boss and the side mounts, you have gone too far.

Question, did the OP ever say what engine he has? A picture of what he is working on will help.

I love the early sbc stuff. 265's, 283's. Hurst motor mounts, Cal Custom 7 fin covers, Tripower, smooth painted block and ram horn exhaust.

I love the old 283 script valve covers. That is, if you dont have alot of valve train to stuff under them.

If you want something different how about Canadian Pontiac stamped script valve covers? Good luck finding a set, I live in Canada and only recall ever seeing a few sets many years ago.

I have a pair of the SBC, Pontiac script, staggered pattern, valve covers, that were GIVEN to me by a Canadian HAMBER. Is the green color what was used on these Canadian SBC's that were installed in "Pontiac's"?
    I am Butch/56sedandelivery.

  23. it is the color my dad did it in 1957.

I made sure I had early heads without the mounting holes on the ends. IMG_1173.JPG

*whistles nonchalantly* I may know a guy with a set hanging on his wall who could be persuaded to sell... or better yet, trade for some early block lettered Weiand sbc covers or some other interesting parts.

As for dressing up your SBC, as others have said you should pick an era and head in that direction. What vehicle is it for?
Cloth wires would look out of place on a "late model" engine.

Nice job smoothing out the manifolds, they look so much better with all the warts gone. What is the finish on them, paint or ceramic coating?
