Pencil sketch on the wall. Thinking on how to do color. I'm thinking pastels.

  3. I'm impressed with your talent Phil! How long did that "sketch" take you. I have issues with drawing a straight line, never would even think of trying that:rolleyes:

like a lot of guys I started reading this damn thread and just couldn't leave it alone. Like most I am envious of Phil's attention to detail and his knowledge and I mean on many subjects dealing with this old car. So I rock along reading and wanting him to get this critter running and not have that valve problem. Then old Phil has to go and break out the paint brush and do that damn mural, and low and behold I am now convinced he his some kind of weird "alien" come down here to planet Earth to make fools out of all of us poor stumbling, bumbling boobs just trying to fix our Hot Rods.

    Bad Phil, Bad Phil ....

And there am I, seeing the skill, enterprise, innovation and vision that eveybody on here demonstrates on a daily basis.
I am always in awe of the work I see y'all doing. Genuinely.

It makes me proud of what I try to do. Every day is a school day, even on the days off to take on a mental-break tangent to do a bit of decorating...

Finally remembered to order a new valve.

Hopefully that should be here sometime soon and I can finish up reassembling the engine.

  22. Hey Phil:

GREAT project and great write ups! These are real treats to read. Question: what valve compound are you using to lap the valves? Or are you using some other abrasive paste?

I lived in LA 8 years, loved it. Great old cars there too, I remember a 50 Cadillac fastback and a 53 Pontiac for sale each $3500, I wish I had snapped those up. Way north of you is Belle Rose LA they have a drag strip was only $10...for test n tune....cheap fun on Wed night. Unlike up north it's $40 bucks.

Maybe find something different than gasoline for parts cleaning it is hella dangerous -any teeny spark...

Looking forward to the next update!

NAPA's regular valve grinding goop. Carborundum in some sort of oil. Oldschool.

Belle Rose is a bit of a drive. I think I'd do better on a rolling road locally to dial in the timing...

I've been experimenting with other solvents- Pine-Sol does work but it is slooooooow.

Of course. It runs as well as the day it rolled out of the factory!
