Is there any patch panels for it or will I have to fabricate my own. I’ve looked online and have yet to find anything also will Chev work too? Thanks.

Some heat and persuasion from a come along attached to a solid tree or pole would get the majority of that out, gently tap on the high spots as your pulling. A portapower on the inside would help too. Finess it with a hammer and dolly, then bodywork/prime and dust a little paint in. Much less intrusive than cutting it out and welding a piece in, plus you would still have to pull and rough out the damage beforehand to remove the buckle in the side of the 1/4.

  6. Patch panels are for rust, not for love taps.

  7. The easiest repair is find a donor car that has the left rear tail light area intact and not damaged, cut the offending piece out and replace, the only problem with this train of thought is finding another '50 Pontiac sitting around.

The damage can be pulled out and body worked back into shape. HRP

This would be perfect use for the portapowers mentioned in the other thread!!

If you can get to the back side pretty easy a cheap harbor freight 4 ton portapower and some 2x4's to block against and you'd be set to do some straightening !!

On the bright side, your car looks like it is in nice shape and finding a repro tailight will be easy.

Just have to weld a little, bondo, paint and get a new trim ring. Thanks boys! Christmas tradition always work on old cars or motorcycles on the birth day of our 6 pound 7 ounce baby Jesus! Worked in the garage for 6 hours.

Looks good. Was going to suggest getting a copy of Frank Sargent's book The Key To Metal Bumping, but it looks like you guys did well without any extra help.

The ratchet handle dozer complete with 4500 lb portable base. I've done that a couple of times
I was going to suggest a bottle jack and a few well placed wood blocks on the inside to push it out.
Nice work on that. a bit of finish work and some paint and life it will be ready to go.

Got a new battery. No current anywhere. No the headlights or ignition. On a six volt what is the best way to check the starter? Should I start there? Solonoid appears new. Could the starter be blocking the current if it is bad?

You will get better responses to your electrical issues if you start a new thread. Good luck.

I didn't see this thread in time to let you know I have a 50 parts car with a good driver's side quarter. But, it's evident that you don't need it.

We all get overwhelmed with how to fix stuff... but if you try it yourself..chances are since you care more for the car than anyone else, that itll turn out good..

A 90 year old old timer once told me , “people underestimate what they can do!” Amen. I never forgot that and how he looked at me when he said it and how he said it.

I have a soft spot for those 1949 to 51 Pontiacs...they are really cool looking cars. Keep trying and you will keep learning every day.

My grandpa had a 4 door 51 so my old man dying of cancer actually wants to work on a car with me again so that’s good. It’s been a while. And I needed that probably more than him. He told me today he wanted my grandpa to keep it for him but he traded it for a 61 Chevy. My middle daughter can’t wait to drive it this summer when she turns 16 and probably with her permit with the old man before that.

Just need to find visor for the window next. What should I be working for that will fit?

  27. Back in the olden days  my parents had a black 50 exactly like that one. I still remember my mom was passing a semi, going up a hill in a rain storm. The old hydra-matic kicked down into passing gear and that straight 8 began to wind up as we drew even with the semi. Just as we were clearing him the engine blew. I was justa kid so I don't know how bad it was but it was bad enough we traded it in for a white 52 Pontiac 4 door.

Man you got it ! I can remember years ago lookin hard to fine 2 of those tail lights in nice shape . It was a tough hunt . I found a pair of super nice ones , they now reside in the rear panel of my 32 3W . A few years after my hunt was over , the repop world started making them for all to enjoy .
