History Images of vintage gas stations ~ pre 65

  1. Took a "road trip" this morning thanks to Google street view. I do believe that gas station is/was in the Flagstaff area. Mtns are too far north in the Albuquerque area

  17. Silly question here but the very last picture with the Zimmerman gulf station... it looks like the cars would fill up beside the curb? It doesn't look like you would pull onto Zimmerman property to fill? Was this common or am I missing something?

  19. Some general stores got to sell gas etc and that was common practice.
    More of note is the two horse/buggies and a 60's car! JW

    This was quite common in 1920s small-town America. Businesses that wanted to stay in the center of town (or were required to stay in the business district) added curbside pumps. Most were lost to street widening or stricter fire codes.
