The other things I have been doing are, final welding and reassembly of all parts. My internet will be down for some time today, so the next shots should be pretty well complete, as the car ships out tomorrow. IMG_2585.JPG IMG_2587.JPG IMG_2588.JPG IMG_2589.JPG IMG_2592.JPG IMG_2593.JPG

  2. Nice panel work Marty as expected. This looks like a Sun Visor mount out of a 56 Ford truck. I have to say it's a strange place for a visor.

I know you've always said you're no photographer Marty but your documentation of this build is on par with the quality of your fabrication, just stunning.
I couldn't make it out to see it in the flesh but in all honesty these photos do the car justice.
Thanks for taking us all on this ride, and have a great time in SoCal.

Sometimes photos make things look better than they really are, but the craftsmanship on this car is just as awesome as it appears in the pictures!

Final assembly continues, it needed some 1/4" plates between the rear radius rod bracket and the birdcage. It's going together just fine ! More later. IMG_2604.JPG IMG_2605.JPG IMG_2607.JPG IMG_2608.JPG IMG_2595.JPG IMG_2596.JPG IMG_2597.JPG IMG_2599.JPG IMG_2600.JPG IMG_2602.JPG

Well friends, my journey has come to an end, it's in the trailer and will be heading south tomorrow. I have a few minor things to finish and send to Pat. It's amazing how light it is, my friend Leighton Mangles, brought his scales, as I wanted to know the weight. These last few weeks have been a killer for me. Yesterday, I was at it at 6:00 A.M. and walked home at midnight. If you go to GNRS stop by and say hi. Congratulations! After spending 3 years on a kitchen/bath remodel on my own home, I think I understand how you feel right now! Enjoy your time at GNRS!

Thank you for this journey @Marty Strode...it's a very stunning outcome...congratulations on an incredible compliment to the past. So obviously there is more to completing what you have finalized. Any idea on the timeline to completion of this project. It also seems to be a dual purpose racer as it seemed to do track and lake racing.

My apologies if I've missed these details.

    Marty,

I'm generally not into recreations. But, this is magnificent. Do you have any idea why the right side is heavier both front and rear than the left? Can't all be due to that beautiful pipe running down the right side.

Pat will have to lean left a looooong way to compensate for that.

Thank you so much for this thread Marty. It's been very inspirational. It now looks like I'll be at the show on Saturday, I hope I get to meet you and Pat and take some shots of the car, and whatever else is in the booth. See you there!

Replicas often fall short of the originals. Not only have you captured the look and feel of the original, you have paid tribute to the Spalding's high build quality the car was known for. Well done Marty!

Thank you all ! From the start Pat and I decided to build it as close as we could, with parts available today. I think the clutch and transmission will certainly broaden it's use, like going to the Colorado Hill Climb, maybe a little drag racing, and general fun with the car. I can't wait to meet some of you at GNRS, see you there.
