I can verify what you say about all the little stuff. I have been thrashing on my coupe for a month non-stop, and it doesn't look like anything changed.

 

Hi Jim.Looking real good.I too have been having the same problem as D.O.M.I had to catch up on about 12 pages today.Loved playing catch up though.This is not the only thread that has had this problem.Vintage shots is another one.

Nice fuel lines. Technical question, did you double flare or just single flare your lines because fuel pressure is slow low as compared to that of brake pressure? I ask because my hard lines I did years ago with a not so good double flaring tool has bit me in the butt after going thru my carb. I cheated for now and used copper sealing washers until I bend up a new set of lines and "flare" them.

I always double flare all steel lines on cars. I do single flare on soft lines for other applications...but not on this stuff.

 

did you regular steel or nicopp?

 

normal steel. It's a traditional build, I try not to keep up with the modern trends.

 

A good flaring tool is worth the expense. If you keep your eyes open they can be had for a reasonable price. I bought my Mastercool at an excellent price. It does double, metric bubble, GM fuel line and push connect flares.

 

Now that there's finally some weight to the car, I can get an idea how the springs work...and I'm not happy with the front springs. I figured they were not going to work quite right, when I got them. I ordered a different set, we'll see if they are better. Might need to relocate the front hanger a little ways, too.

And the rear needs to be raised up, that's pretty easy, just unbolt the lower mount from the rear housing bracket, and put the bolts in different holes.

Tinkering with the exhaust...I can't find an easy route for tail pipes, so it might get turnouts in front of the rear tires for now. The collector and muffler are mocked up, and some of the pieces of the racing "zoomie" (actually weed burner) tips are laying there.

I think this is one of the last things I need to figure out, then I can pull the motor back out, and get to work assembling it for reals.

been puttering around with the car...the short block is together and painted, heads might be done tomorrow. Started on the wiring stuff, but haven't got very far. Still a lot to do, but there's still a week to work on it.

 

I would be losing my mind if I had a week and my shortblock was still on a stand.

Truly amazing!

 

Dropped off some TF truck cabs up at the strip in Commerce last night (Brad54's swap meet is this weekend) and found out that Brad is helping out with tech for Drag Weeek- looking forward to seeing you and the Barracuda, Jim!!!

I don't have anything to worry about, really. If I get the car going and I think it will work, I'll take it. If not, I'll take my Chevy. Either way, I'm going, and it'll be fun

 

If you stop talking and get working you will make it. lol. I wish I still lived in Flagstaff I'd come down and give you a hand in some capacity even if it was to take dictation and post on the hamb. Keep going Jim everybody is rooting for you.

I have a couple helpers today, my son Steven and friend Dan are both working on the car with me. They've both been on Drag Week with me, so they get it

 

I'm playing with the distributor today, got it apart and cleaned up and mostly back together. Tach drive dual point Prestolite, has a ball bearing in the top. I am going to run an electronic tach for now, until I put more time into the cable situation, etc.

hopefully the new points fit.

 

Jim, I had a Prestolite dual point in a 1970 340. It kept changing time on me and I found out by holding the rotor and twisting it that some part of the shaft that was pressed together would allow it to slip and change timing. (Best description I can come up with after 46 years ago memory)

 

this one seems to be tight, but I'll keep an eye on it. thanks

 

points? is that for ease of replacement on the road?
