I see more SBC painted exhaust manifolds. They must have really smoked when first fired up. I wonder how long this practice lasted. Or did it ever end?

It's too labor intensive to assemble the motor after painting. They did it all the way up to natural colored aluminum blocks.

 

That is an outstanding Pepsi-Cola delivery truck photo. Makes me wish for the days of my youth when a bottle of pop could be purchased for 17 cents and a candy bar for 5 cents. Those were the days!
