there is a blower on Craigslist local to me for a couple hundred bucks but looks like it’s from a Detroit diesel from the casting number of 5157199. Anyone modified one of these or think I could get it to work on the 8el 337 in my Lincoln? https://phoenix.craigslist.org/wvl/pts/6554890428.html
Yea I was going to try and find an intake to modify and keep my original one, and I’d i can’t I’ll make one. Any reason you guys can think of a blower like this wouldn’t work? I’m fine modifying it
The two answers above your last reply answered your question. Not much of a benefit unless the application would call for that.
Yeah...but there is the "cool effect". Actually that looks like a pretty good deal and would work on a flathead Ford just fine. If I was closer I would buy it.
As far as I know all the oem diesel blowers rotated backwards for gas motors. And all the ones I've seen, just a few to be sure, they were cast iron and unbelievable heavy.
Oj, where did you see a cast iron diesel blower? My dad was a diesel mechanic and would take me to work with him and don't recall ever seeing a cast iron blower on a GMC diesel, maybe one of the old Cummins ones?
Budget36, heres an old Cummins nhrs 320 note the supercharger to the right. Looks a bit like the old S.C.O T. Blowers
Cummins sold V6 and V8 diesels... ever hear of the 903? its a V8 Cummins although it never had a roots type blower. And some older inline Cummin's had roots type blowers
I'll be darn. @studebakerjoe ...never seen a blower hanging off the side like that. But thinking about it, I may have one out back in a shed..when I water the horses later this afternoon, I'll take a pic of it. Always wondered what that thing came off off. @ottoman never knew that...and I've been around old Pete's for a long time.
Budget36, I think you'd see the 378 v6 and the 504/555 v8s more in marine and tractor/construction type equipment rather than in a Pete or KW
Yea that would most likely not be good for my stock 337 if I want to keep it together haha. The answers are kind of all over the place but since it seems like some of you guys think it would work I’ll see if I can’t get it at a good price. It’s down on my list of stuff I need to do but it’s local so probably worth picking up for later. Any ideas about a decent price? I haven’t seen many so not sure of pricing.
I got a straight off the diesel 4-71 at the Tucson swap meet last year for a buck and a half. if you can't get a good deal on that one...mine might be for sale.
I might take you up on that. I’ll let you know what happens with this one on Craigslist. If your willing to sell it though, and think it’ll work on my 337 I’d rather buy from a member anyway.
What do you think about that price, might be able to get him down a little but he sounds pretty set on the price
but seriously, if you look around you can find a better deal.... here's one that sold on ebay, set up for a gas engine, with drive snout, seven bills https://www.ebay.com/itm/152970797489
Think dude's a lil rich on price, Squirrel is Rite... IMO 3-4 hunj is realistic, Seen them for 150-200 swap meets
Yea that’s what I was thinking. I’ll see if he’ll do 300 and if he won’t then I’ll pass. Thanks for the help guys
