Art & Inspiration How about a 1957-1958 Ford thread?

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by Chris, Jan 6, 2016.

  1. The reflections appear to be due to it being a picture of a picture....

To make 'em acceptable back then...(I read somewhere there was some sort of 'questionnaire' some farmers took, and they were unanimous on the answer: "Don't need all them lights on the tailgate.."

We used to 'A-Frame' 'em, (add dropped fabricated ends for outer ball joints. The famous 'MAZE' (first subject of this thread) was done this way in San Jose in '59 (or so) by Heinrich's Custom Shop.
Bach then, it cost $24.00 to alter (both sides!) and $8.00 to align it. (caster, camber, and toe. Center steering wheel.)
Rode stock, safely above scrub line. (read: LEGAL!) Real problem in those days...thereabouts...

  6. Probably the more sensible reason was that Rancheros figured to be used more like a truck in a work place envoirement than the station wagon, and having the taillights on the tailgate, they would be more susceptible to damage when the tailgate was lowered. Also, more likely to be driven with a load needing the tailgate to be in the lowered position while driving.
I'm not sure I've ever seen a pickup with tailights, or a portion of, in the tailgate. Probably has been, I just not remembering.

Not the best pic. 428 C-6 . Rebuilding front end, adding Aerostar coils and disc brakes right now.

  16. Only thing I can see to improve it is put alot of miles on it!!
Gorgeous car, nothing I don't like about it that I can see. I've said it many times, I think 57 Fords have the best ever sedans, be it the basic Custom (Yep, I'm biased,) or the Fairlanes. Your model has the advantages of being a sedan, but looks like a hardtop......win, win!
