Projects Pounding out a T roadster

A little more tweaking on the fit, finish rolling the corner over, then weld. But hey, it looks like a door. Now to get the other one this far and spend a day tweaking and finishing both of them.

Very nice work on the both of these T's. You may remember I had a run on some homemade '27 RPU's and a couple of coupes a few years ago. I'm enjoying your work immensely. Keep banging and as a small hint you might want to pick up a leather backed wooden slap hammer and a steel slapper or two. It will make the double reverses around the cowl and the bun panels so much easier. Just my asshole two cents! It works like a power hammer with no power.

Very motivating! Easy to shape fiberglass, not so easy with steel. I'm in the planning stage of converting my wood framed doors into steel frames. Piece of cake compared to what you're doing. Thanks for posting this thread.

This is a great thread, glad to see Fleetmaster showing his, which must be ready to drive by now eh buddy?

 

So as some may have noticed, the door tops run uphill a bit. I absolutely hate the look of sitting on a car and not in it. That look happens pretty easily with a 23-25 T. I am 6 foot tall, and if my seating position works out where I have it mocked up, my shoulder is just inside of the car. With the cushion and upholstery, I should still only be head and a couple inches of shoulder out of the car. I need to get my son in it to see how someone 5’7” looks in it and how well they can see.

 

It looks pretty amazing. I love the large doors. Much more practical. And you've got two of them!

Not yet ...but my BelAir is coming along great guns at mo Jeff , paintjob getting finished first week of Jan , then on the finishing straight

 

That should work pretty well Justabeater37 , I can sit down in mine too , but I'm only 5'6" . Some guys have gone the Dan Woods / Danny Eichstedt route and made the back higher and /or the sides lower.....but one of the draw backs is cold knees on longer trips .
How is your knee placement in relation to the doors?

 

Everything is tucked inside nicely at the moment. The only change may come when the trans is actually in it and I have to jockey for throttle and brake pedal positioning. Feeling roomy for now, but that will change. The joy of this build is its an auto. I am using the Limeworks column shifter that looks like a three on the tree to keep as much floor space as possible.

 

On a side note, I finally took a night to clean up and get organized a bit. I seem to make a huge mess of my shop when I get focused and forget the cleaning part once in awhile. It will be a lot nicer working out there again.

The doors were hung on the model T with care... Now to mock up some hood sides to hide the ugly SBC, steering linkage and such. Cut down A or custom and have my friend punch some louvers?

This is really good man! Looks terrific!

 

The grille needs to drop an inch or so.

 

If I can modify the crossmember to drop the radiator. I don't know if there is another inch there or not yet. Need to chop the grille too but not looking forward to modifying the center. Maybe just chop it an d run an apron like on my pickup.

 

I wouldn't worry tooo much about the hood and rad shell just yet . I'd get the car sitting exactly at ride height and see how big of a radiator you can get in there , I'm poss going to have to run 2 radiators in mine as the track nose becomes fairly tight . As far as the lines of the car go ....I went to a fair bit of trouble getting these lines ( the hood top shut line, the bottom of the body sides, the bottom of the turtleback (where it meets the rollpan) and the top of the body sides ) all running parallel . IMO you need the top of the rad shell at least 3/8in lower than the firewall .
