I just looked on ebay. There are a couple cast intakes for your engine, but they are high. Also, one for a 25 inch Chrysler that the fellow built himself. Looks like a good option.

I sure can't see why not. You could likely do it for less than the 500 bucks he's asking and do a little smoother job too. His carbs need rebuilt, I just don't see a lot of value there, hasn't even been tried out.

 

I have a 49 and 51 Ford decklid laying down at my pops, I grabbed the 49 and took the skin off. I was thinking that it would have the crown to fill in the sides of the idLdo.

 

It works. Will have to do some hammer dolly work for sure!

Pops donated a nice set of Guide Cycleray headlamps for the idLdo. Also brought home my other shoebox trunk lid to fill in the other side of the body.

 

I like that you are incorporating the body lines fron various pieces to give almost a factory look. Very cool!

Thanks, When I started clamping things together I could see that if I moved the fenders forward the body lines would start in the cowl. It really did work out well.

 

Welded in most of the side panel until I ran out of gas. Looks like shit! Going to have to do a ton of work trying to get it straight.

 

Hey, Rusty.... For those of us that are novices and beginners, this is a terrific template of how to fabricate. Thanks for the primer. And its such a cool ride. Can't wait to see the peddle arrangement.

 

Oh boy dont let me take the lead here. I'm doing everything ass backwards. I have good friends that are fabricators and I've seen how to do things correctly but when I get in my home shop I seem to forget all the right ways to do a job. As far as the pedal set up I've had that stuck in the back of my head but dont have a clue of how it will all go down. I guess it will depend on what parts are scrounged.

 

Had to prop things up today to see what its going to look like.

Kinda exemplifies the iD'ldo feeling.

On the engine block drivers side front just under the head is a flat raised cast spot, the engine number is stamped there. Should start with a T. But, engine swaps were almost always the cure for a worn out unit so it could be something else. The engine number will confirm what it is. With some subtle mods my Plymouth 230 is making 127 rear wheel HP at 3300. Factory pulled flywheel HP at 3600. Nice project like the Mopar power plant idea. Truck trans will likely be a non synchro 4 speed, but low will be a granny gear. The truck engine bell housing bolts through the frame so you might need some frame stretchers to make it fit.

Floor shift Mopar cars ended in 39, any thing later is a selector style. With something that light you will likely only need 2nd and 3rd so the truck trans might not be an issue. What you want to keep in mind is engine, bell housing and trans are going to be 750 + lbs or probably 65% of finished total weight. Your front suspension, steering and wheels are going to need to be good and stout.

 

That will not be a problem, I will be using 40 ford I beam and wish bones. I,m doing this as cheap as possible so I guess what trans comes along will be the one used, car or truck.

 

Picked up my 40 front end today. Was thinking about a spring over axle but I dig the way it looks with the spring ahead. Plus it will save me money not buying spring over perches.

 

You could, and you should.

 

Havent had much time to play but I did make a bottom spring retainer for the front end and I still have to clean up the top perch. I had some flathead head bolts with a F cast in them so I'm going to use them to hold everything together.

I made a prototype tie rod mount for the frame. I just cant seem to do things simple, I still have to ream the bung out to 7 degrees.

 

Milled up three more mounts. Little over the top for the car but what the hell.

Made one tie rod/ wishbone bung today after work. Going to weld the model A tie rod into the bung and then weld the bung to the wishbone. Should be fine for the weight of the car. Now to mill three more.
