Thirties era T roadster - Take 2

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by Greg Stokes, May 18, 2017.

  1. Around 2009-2010 I built a thirties era T roadster which I reluctantly sold. Between then and now I've had numerous changes in life with work, health and personal but the idea to build another T has always been there. My problem is I like roadsters and tubs and modifieds and speedsters.

    Last year I bought a bunch of T stuff[IMG]

I recently sold the Tourer and still have the original T chassis but I also have a bunch of other parts to build an A powered speedster. Just to use parts laying around - a low buck build. Then the other night on instagram Sam Strube had this 24 roadster body available so my speedster idea has morphed into a roadster like my 2009-2010 project[IMG]

    Here's my previous one [IMG]

But I want more of a Multi Aldrich look this time round [IMG][IMG]

I have most of the parts but still in the planning stage at the moment

I like your old one and I like your plans for the new one as well. I'll be following along as this comes together. The T5 seems like an odd choice considering the vintage of the rest of the parts but I'll try not to judge, this has to be extra hard to do in New Zealand where old Ford parts must be really hard to come by, they're hard enough to find here already.

  5. Thank you and yes I agree re the choice of T5 but I have one here and I was really happy with the drive ability of it with the five speed behind the banger in my pickup.

Like everything means there are pros and cons. One thing I would need to do is an open drive conversion if I went this way. Another option is an A box and diff.

Good parts are hard to find here. And the cost of importing parts is up there also.

Very cool. The Multi T is an inspiration to my current T build as well. Interested to see this.

  7. I found this on instagram the other night. This is exactly it [IMG]

I believe it's from Sweden and nails the look I'm shooting for this time

As to finding old Ford parts in good condition being hard to find, I've found the opposite.

    I'm doing a mix of A and T. Cool.
I must protest against a T5 and especially an open driveline, too far from the theme and loosing the torque tube bring so many issues. You wouldn't want to end up with a 4 link or the such.
I'm either going to run an A box or I'm working on an adapter to mount the tube to a Volvo M40 box

  13. On Sunday we went to Tracy, CA to pickup this 24 T roadster body from Sam Strube. Really happy with the turtkedeck and rear quarters.

  14. Last day in the USA today for this trip and we called by Pwoods place and he corrected me that it's a '25 body I have. But the real reason was for the T front spring perch he makes to lower my T

His T project is too cool

Model A hubs on the T axle. Waiting for spring perches then I can get the front end sorted a bit before working out the rear end

Scored a Winfield SR carb for it as well
    [IMG][IMG]

On to the rear end - flip the axle housings side to side to get the T spring in front of the diff

This will be a neat build.

What do guys running T front axles use for spindles/brakes? Is there a hydraulic conversion that's been done before?

Not so. My avatar has an A emgine and torque tube with A rear axle. And a 1984-1987 F150 3 speed with overdrive
