Yesterday was my dad's 65th birthday.
So on his special day I let him sand the hood for 6 hours.







Here he is in 1979 when he was about my age.

On that dogleg, you use a form or just hammer and dolly and planishing hammer?

 

Maybe I got lucky. I cut out a piece. Drew a line where I thought I should "planish" it. Then proceeded to planishing until it looked good. Then I used the stretcher and shrinker to fold the edges over and get some of those compound curves.

Today is your day. I decided to tackle the top of the fender. I made it in sections. My uncle said don't get stressed out trying to make it in one piece. No way was that a one piece deal.
So it's 5 pieces.

I put the fender back on to help me with this piece. This is more challenging than capping the eyebrow.

I love stories like this. You sir are a very talented fabricator. Too many people would have said "Four door, terminal rust, nah let it go." The old girl will be mighty grateful that you spared her from the scrapper. Cool family history too.
