As a 14 or 15 year old I remember seeing that episode when it first aired and was very much a fan of the show. Loved the cars and built the models. HRP
Frank from "American Pickers" found the "Dragula" car in California a few years ago and got it running. He ended up racing Mike from the same show (in a '32 roadster they had a pro shop put together from parts they had scrounged up). He was running a flathead Mercury. "Dragula" with a 350/Powerglide combination won easily. They said "Dragula"was built by Barris (no surprise). They didn't seem overly impressed with the find, even though it appeared to be the original.
They used the Dragula for road racing in the movie "Munsters Go Home". I think the original was smallblock Ford powered. I remember when I was a kid, my dad bought a new '67 Ford pickup. The Munsters were featured in a brochure or newsletter. Back then, the manufacturer would sponsor the series for the season. For example, Bewhitched and Bonanza drove Chevrolet. Everyone on "I Dream Of Jeanie" drove Pontiac. Edit: I didn't mean they drove cars in the Bonanza episodes. The stars appeared in their commercials. "Hoss" was a relative of mine. They gave him a high performance Chevelle back in maybe '65. Sent from my iPhone using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
A young guy 'replicated' the Munsters car, around 1990. He took it to the Goodguys in Pleasanton, George Barris walked up and gave him a 'stiff warning' about plagiarizing a 'documented Kustom'! Poor Eric took the car home, but continued driving it from time to time in San Jose... It was a 'dead ringer'!
I realize people get all warm and sticky at the mention of his name but ever since I heard someone say how he wouldn't sign his autograph until they gave $$$ to his lackey, I'm not so enamored by him.
Frank did not buy the original dragula. He bought a 5000 dollar thrown together car that barris son built. The original car would be worth lots more.
great show! if they were to ever bring back the Munsters, Michael Phelps could play Herman. I have a friend who can not say Munsters. he calls them the Monsters, I don't know what is wrong with him.
{Another funny episode} Lilly wanted to buy Herman a car for his birthday. There was a T bucket and a Hearse on a used car lot. She couldn't decide witch one to buy. So she bought them both, and told the dealer to combine the two and make the Munster coach. lol
