Art & Inspiration Tech School Students Doing Good

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by anthony myrick, Nov 7, 2014.

  1. we don't have much $, but plans are in the works for generating some once our shop is reworked this year
we are having a new 40k paint booth about to be installed
we also have a very understanding/supportive board and director
as far as the bus is concerned, the front sub is tack welded in place and should be finished soon
the motor and trans is close to being ready as well
we have gotten a lot of attention because of this bus project and I hope we receive much more after it hits the streets
the kids have done an awesome job so far

That is some fantastic art work and I am glad to see that there are still some vocational programs around. Keep up the good work.

  13. thanks, we try to expose our students to many different learning/work opportunities
we have 3 electric race cars (small one seaters) that students built and maintain.
we have a gasser/drag car in the plans (hopefully) after the bus is finished
I need to update the pictures
students are currently rebuilding the brakes and suspension and trans overhaul. After the Christmas break, they will start assembling the engine and rewiring.

Good on You Mr. Myrick (I would address my Teachers as Mr & Miss or Misses)...My Tech stuff at school helped greatly in my technical based career and my dabbling in Hotrods, and all things mechanical...We did not have any collector cars, however I remember working on a Chevy Smallblock on a stand and some daily drivers. I was fortunate as well also learning drafting basics and metal shop basics.

Your students are fortunate to have a teacher like you.
You are fortunate to have a principal and school board that supports your program.
Be sure to promote your program in the local newspaper , TV, talk shows, Chamber of Commerce, local industry and any other way you can think of to make your school look good.
In these days, it's all about PR.

  21. thanks
we were on our local news papers front page last month
last Thursday, a couple of students and I gave a presentation at our school board on the activities we are involved in
the Bus is scheduled to participate in a science fair at UNC Charlotte
we also have 3 small electric race cars, this Saturday we are sponsoring a race for these cars around our towns court house.
Our town shuts down 2 blocks and we will have 4 races between about 12 teams
Our electric race team is also scheduled to participate in a race at Indy next month
Our Automotive instructor (I'm the collision guy) visits our chamber of commerce regularly.
the Bus and the electric cars are joint projects between the 2 programs.
We visit shops weekly and have received excellent support from them.
our electric cars are crowd favorites at our local parades.
